Wait, Toph can't see when her feet are under sand, so all gaara would need to do is spread a little sand and toph is done.

on the contrary, toph CAN see in sand-- it's just that it's a blurry foggy kinda vision. but toph can compress sand and turn it back to solid earth XD

Her only weakness against Gaara would be when he starts flying in the air with his sand dome ability. Along with projectiles (But then again Toph can bend her way through anything)

not entirely. as long as gaara makes a sound or sand falls from above, toph can "see" him.
like when appa was flying over her and she heard him roar, she just trampolined herself up to appa (refer to "the promise" comic)

Also in a extras DVD it says toph can feel the earth ( including sand ) even if it's not connected to the ground

you should join WOTN. I'm in the Sand village, but you could be in one of the other villages.... [link] I think you'd like it. anyway, if you do decide to join, and not join the Sand village, I'd highly recoment the Glacier and Storm villages. The Kage over the Glacier village is really nice, and the Kage over Storm is pretty cool too, and their both small villages, so you're more likely to be advanced than if you were in a huge village like the Sand....
