I wasn't quite getting the lighting down. I also rendered on the laptop which goes much faster than our desktop, but isn't as bright as the monitor on the desktop. I think this one could have been a little brighter but then I may have washed her out.....

I admit she does look a little washed out. Not an easy situation in your case, but then there's post work you can do on the desktop? Maybe try to calibrate your laptop?

Sure, I don't run off of battery power as a rule, so I imagine I can change the settings up and not worry about consumption. I did adjust somewhat in Paint-shop Pro. The real problem here is patience! LOL When I see comments from others about how a render can take them several hours...well, to go through that much effort and not like the render, and have to run it again? I generally go with deep shadow mapping, but ray-trace may have helped more with this particular render..but there we get into time use!

Well, I see your point in having to re-render a time consuming image, but then that's why we have spot render ability. I use it time and again after each adjustments to the point that I know my render's gonna look good, I think there's only been a couple times I wanted to re-render (not including old snot images where I didn't do good LOL, would like to re-render all of them hehe).

Deep shadow map in my opinion sucks (no pun intended). They're too soft & light and make your images "dirty" instead of having real shadows. Raytraced shadows give you the ability to soften shadows, and they look like natural shadows.

Patience... ahh the word all artists need to learn to become true artists lol. Sometimes I run out, but I've learn to have lots of patience.

Again to my patience (and lack thereof!)..I know there are more capabilities in DAZ, but a lot of times, when I have time or desire to render, it's not a big window of time and I don't want to spend it trying to figure out a particular tweak.
LOL I have DAZ4 now but I still haven't, after all of these years, really looked into all of the ins-and-outs of 3 yet! Too many changes in 4, kind of like trying to learn each new Windows OS! I also don't know that I want to start with a lot of new material, for Genesis and Vic5. It's been time-consuming and expensive building up Vic4, after all!
The laptop does render faster, and I have experimented more with ray-tracing with that machine. This render scene is saved in Studio as is right now; I certainly can, and probably will, go back a little later and see what it does when I change those settings. Right now, I am drinking my coffee (second of what will be many cups for the day! LOL) and multi-tasking on the desktop. Enjoying that quiet time before the rest of the two-legged critters wake up and start mulling about. The 4-legged ones just lay there and sleep, once they've been fed! LOL
