Description
In the grim Darkness of the far future, there is only... artwork!
This one goes to all the fans of the Dark Millenium that usually wait quite long between these images. Now you got two (three even, if you count Vulkan!) in a row. I hope you enjoy!
This one I like a lot because it let me draw Space Marines as usual, but adding a twist: a non-regular Chapter, the Celestial Lions, versus a very cool Traitor Chapter, the Night Lords (the Batman Legion of the 41st Millenium). With them I particularly wanted to achieve a great effect on their armour, because it is described as being in constant change and movement, as if there was a storm raging within it. However, it's hard to achieve that in paint, but we can get close.
I rendered the plates as if they were indeed electrified and constantly fluxing with lightning. I hope I've achieved the desired effect!
I also think the scene depicts quite a violent battle, which is what the client requested, so...

I love the artwork, and I don't mean to sound like a stereotypical Nerdus Imperia (Imperial Nerd) but pitting the celestial lions up against the night lords? Night lords would definitely win, because if I remember correctly, the Lions have about 96 Battle Brothers within their chapter(after some events in the Badab war, if I remember correctly), so yeah, the lions would fight, and they'd kick as much ass as they could, but the night lords would still win, making the battle highly unrealistic for the victory to go to the mighty Imperium!

It depends GW hasn't really touched in the celestial lions in a while so right now they are either the entire chapter died out or they have recovered.The celestial lions are a chapter i really like since they are know for having a very strong sense of justice and value the lives of all imperials.This value of life lead them to arguments with the inquisition wich reacted my massacring part of thier chapter and later almost fishing them off in Armageddon as the Inquisition actually gave the orks information about were the space marines would be at.During this massacre many chapters were lost but 96 celestial lions were saved by the black Templars who sent them off into their homeworld to recover thier numbers or die with thier ancestors.I think GW could use this to create something like a rebellion between the Adeptus Astartes and the Inquisition.There is already a lot of tension between the astartes and the inquisition if the celestial lions recovered thier numbers and spread this information to other chapters along wiht other chapters coming out with the atrocities the inquisition has done am pretty sure they could get a rebellion going, not to mention that the Astartes would have public support since more people trust the astartes over the inquisition hell i bet that if the astartes would rebel the astra millitarium might join them as well.I think it would be awesome if the astartes came out and did something like this bringing a better time for the imperium not only would it be something refreshing but it would aslo get the plot going and they could bring back some primarchs to support thier chapters during this times as well as having the Alpha legion wich entire goal has always been to destroy chaos join the Astartes.At the end of the day the Emperor never wanted an organization like the inquisition to govern over his empire.Hell they cold even resurrect the Emperor, have the space marines discover the note that the grey knights safe keep and have them resurrect the emperor bringing a time of light for the imperium. But at the end of the day we all know GW wouldn't do something like that they would rather have an end of times 40k.

To be perfectly honest my friend, this was a request so I had no say in what Chapters were involved in the fight. I just drew what I was told to and tried to make it as great as possible. I think I succeeded, based on your comment

A truly inspiring artwork indeed. Paired with recent official artwork on Celestial Lions, it's more than enough to drive a few people to try out this Space Marines color scheme, myself included.
Love the dynamics. The Night Lords look great, but a little to bright (their armour was always depicted as Midnight Blue).

AWESOME, love you Celestial Lions colors, that dark turquoise blue is absolutly marvellous (he remind me Lapis Lazuli stones), love the orange tainted gold too.
Your 40k artwork in general are amazing, great contribution to our univers. Thanks for all.

The Celestial Lions. The only Astartes (besides, perhaps, the Iron Snakes) to turn out the way the Emperor wanted. You know, actually protecting people. Also, kudos for getting the Night Lords' lightning effect on their armor! You really do know your fluff.
I wonder if anyone ever thought of a chapter that acts like the opposite of the Night Lords. Instead of sowing terror, lift the spirits and morale of the Imperial forces. Hell, a glowing Angel of Death smiting you with divine wrath is probably scarier than the guy with bat wings and skulls.

But have to say that there should be no mutation on Night Lords legionaire, they have no wings no claw, no possessed without saying.

depends on corruption of the warband, their not ALL completely pure, in Soulhunter a Night Lords leader is starting to change from being possessed for so long. and Krieg Acerbus, a famous Night Lord, is a daemon prince, so it is possible.

OMG I really enjoy the mk 5 armor that you gave the night lord marine that is being stabbed in the chest! I'm super impressed by your attention to detail and knowledge of 40k! The whole piece is truly amazing!

I am a really big fan of your 40k art work! This is my first time leaving a comment for you and i really must say that you do such a fantastic job. I am very glad that my friend had shown me your work a while back. Since then i been checking weekly to see what you have come up with lol.

Though I despise the Night Lords, I do have a respect for their use of fear tactics. I also enjoyed the colors of the Celestial Lions, more Chapters should have gold armor to show more glorious shining.
