I am a physician-scientist born in Argentina and recently retired as Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Pathology from the University of Chicago.
In my laboratory research, I had always observed similarities between the formal aspects of abstract painting and both cellular and molecular structures, which in my mind began to develop as figural motifs.
After my retirement, I applied and was accepted with a scholarship, to The School of The Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), in which I attended classes for two semesters. During this time, I began to add the aforementioned biological-inspired motifs to my drawings and paintings. However, I became more interested in the motifs than in the figurative requirements of my classes to the point that my abstract additions overcrowded the figurative images demanded in class. Therefore, I felt compelled to leave SAIC’s formal learning to focus exclusively on the rendering of these motifs.
