HI GUYS so i’m doing something for my modelling/character design class, where we take an existing character and redesign it in any way we want. However, the design must STILL stay true to the character, and if possible tell a story about the character in time (so for her coming out of a battle, this would include scratches and nicks on her outfit and skin, roughed/bloody areas on metal, etc).Current things I’m set on:
*Her gloves that basically generates electricity on her palm like iron man, powered by little energy caps that glow blue (with replacement caps on her belt), padded/studded knuckle area for hand to hand combat
*gold circlet/tiara carved to look like leaves
*pants/no skirt
I wanted to do a steampunk sailor jupiter, because she’s my favourite of the sailor scouts. I wanted to reflect her tomboyishness under her “pretty soldier” title, her powers with electricity, her ability at martial arts/hand to hand combat, and i also wanted to incorporate her ability at cooking. I haven’t thought of a way to do that yet, though. for now, i’d like you to something for me; it MAY be a bit hard because they’re sketches and there’s my ugly writing all over the place (good luck reading that lol) but
*tell me which outfit you like the best, numbers 1 - 5 (left to right)
*tell me which outfit screams “sailor Jupiter” the most to you, and why (or if they do’nt say sailor jupiter at all to you, let me know why too.)
*advice on how to improve the outfit(s) you chose and how to incorporate more of her in the outfit
*any ideas on what to do to show her love/ability to cook

Even sans the traditional bow my eye was immediately drawn to number 4. I think because of the prominence the green is given on her top and boots. Then there's the nice details with the belts at her waist (stylish yet practical for utility). The gold accents work well with the green but at the same time aren't overpowering (something I felt it did with numbers 1 and 5).
For suggestions: I think adding the red bow to number 4 and losing the gold details on the knee guards would work, as that way there's not as much going on so the remaining details can stand out more.

First off, all of these are very creative and a good rendition of Jupiter in a Steampunk world. 
*Boots! I love the two different styles of boots you've come up with. Although the shorter ones from #3 are more accurate to the original character design, I like the higher cuffed version better, especially with the steampunk theme.
*Color scheam: Once again, all of them are good and work in their own ways, but what seems the best fusion between Jupiter and steampunk to me is the 5th one. It showcases her predominant color (and I like turning the pink to a darker rose in general, it really works,) and the cream/gold accent color works well for the theme. The 4th one also strikes me as a good color combination, as brown is closely associated with steampunk.
*Coattails vs. none: I prefer having the longish coattails as opposed to not. It gives her a bit of a pirate look and I think improves the overall outfit.
*Leg accessories: I like the leg strappings you have on 1, 2, and 4. The one on 5 isn't bad, but I think it looks a little more general pirate-ish instead of necessarily being steampunk.
*Blouse: I just love the blouse from #4. I keep being drawn back to it. I sort of wish there was a way to incorporate it into one of the other designs. Trouble is I like it being green, but that would make the lower part need to be brown as a contrast, but I like the green as the long coattails too! Though actually, I bet the style would look good in that cream/gold color you have in #5.
Okay, so, bear with me here. You did ask if we thought different outfit combinations would work any better, so here's my idea for which parts would combine best for the best outfit.:
*Boots from 1, 2, 4, and 5.
*Blouse style from 4 but in the cream/gold color from 5. (Keeping the bows in the dark rose color.)
*Upper cincher-thing from 4 but in green with gold stripes, like in 2.
*Flowing into the coattails from 2, keeping rose ruffle and bow in back.
*Pants of cream/gold color from 5.
*Leg strapping from 1, 2, and 4.
*Gloves from 3, 4, and 5. (Without extra rod thing.)
*Leaf circlet from 1 and 2.
*Keep pouches wherever you can.
Sorry if that's a bit much. I grew up designing costumes for plays with my Mom, and we got used to mixing and matching different costume ideas to get what we needed and liked.
Regardless, ALL of the ideas you came up with were very good, and I hope you got/get a good grade on the project.

I love #2. But I'd take out the rod. The color scheme seams similar to her original fuku.

I like 4 and 5 the best... maybe because they don't seem as girly as the other 3? Hard to say why. It's probably just because they have the right colors and outfit to be most appealing to me.

(I'll decide on costume later, but I'm also not a Steam Punk aficionado) I'm not sure there's much you could do that would scream "cooking" that wouldn't seem tacky, if you notice, in Sailor Moon, they don't have anyway they show off her cooking skill in her outfits

I like 2 the best; it just seems the most "Jupiter". No ideas how to improve it, and as for her cooking skill - hm, I suppose she could have a small dicing knife in a sheath on her leg. Useful for cooking or fighting emergencies!

+ My fav is #5, but I'd prefer it with the white pants and blouse from #2
+ I think #3 is the most Sailor Jupiter to me, because of the shoe and tights combination with the whole of the outfit.
+ I just love all these designs, to be perfectly honest. lol.
+ You could say that she keeps spices in one of the pouches on her belt? Or that if she spies an herb plant while she's in uniform, she'll tuck away a clipping of it in her pouch?

I like number bottom half of 2 and the top half of 5. Lighting from gloves seems more plausible. Umm, I guess you could say I think this is Jupiter because even though she has a "tomboyish" personality, she was secretly pretty feminine (i.e. cute lunch boxes, pretty earrings, etc.)

I like the colors of the first one, the white shirt from the second, the belt design and color of the third, the knee protectors in the fourth and the overall design of the fifth, I also like the boot designs! ^^

number 4 best suit Sailor jupiter though I'm rusty on her characteristic, but if I recall she was a tomboyish personality, she relies upon her physical strength, but due to her unusual heigh (she shorter then she should be due to personality). So 4 best tells audience of who she is, which to me a petit tomboy

but I think 1 and 4 really scream sailor jupitor the most. I'm really loving the green puffy shirt in 4 but I think 1 might scream Jupitor/ seem most like her.
maybe find a way to combine them? I know it'd be irritating to do but ;;^;; maybe with colors? I liked how long the coat was on the front of her pants in 4, so maybe add something there in 1 to compensate? I think that's what was really throwing me off! I liked how it was longer in the front, but I really love the back with the bow, too ;;^;; Maybe make the pants the same color as the ones in 5 could help, too! c:

The fifth one is my favorite, and also the one that screams "Sailor Jupiter" to me the most (she's my favorite too!). I'd go with her usual ankle boots rather than the knee-length ones though, like you drew in the third design. I just feel like the fifth one is the best combo of tomboy/girly and has a really good color balance with that yellow. I really love that bow/skirt thing, too.

I think I like the second one with the contrasting colors and the blouse/vest combo. Because she's still very feminine, even if she's the most tomboyish of the girls.

My favorite design would have to be #2, which also is the out that screams "sailor Jupiter" at me, the others don't seem to have quite as many pointers to her original outfit. The few things I would add to the outfit itself would be to take the boots from design #3 and use those instead, as well as perhaps loosing the gold stripes on her coat. I have to agree with ~TheSketchADoodle (comment below me) and say that the rod just seems a bit off, but I don't think you should get rid of it altogether. Maybe you could change it into a ladle instead.

i personally like design 2 the best. its sticks with the original colour pallet the most and it truly does scream "Sailor Jupiter". my one little tidbit of advice is to lose the rod and use the electric glove thing, its more practical in battle and its a better over all design :3

I like the first design more. But instead of stripes keep it a solid black shirt. And put the stripes on the green vest like you have in the second design. I don't know about the rod idea, I'm just not feeling it. o_O But I love the glove idea. maybe instead of an electric rod. Do like in the original design and keep the little antenna(?) that comes out of her tiara. Not sure how that would figure into battle, but it seems like it would make a dramatic looking drawing.

I love love LOVE these designs! You're amazing and these came out really well! You did a nice blend of Jupiter and Steampunk.
Of the outfits, I like the second one the best {but maybe with blue on the belt like in the third one?} and a close second is number Four without the red bows on the top half/shirt. I love the color scheme and look of the Second one the best! Fits Jupiter the most, to me. The Fourth one is the second runner but I feel like the red bows on her shirt are distracting and don't fit right there. Everything else I love!
I love her boots {both styles}, leaf tiara, belt and magenta back bows against the dark green corset/vest! And the idea for her gloves is lovely! Good luck with your project!

i really like outfit 4. it doesnt have many (if any) frills and lacks taht huge bow, which make it seem more boyish to me. it also doesnt show the skin of her chest!

2 and 3 keep the "sailor scout" uniform (at least in my mind) the strongest while still giving all the Steampunky-ness its shine! I love the "skirt" design the most on 2.
