stranger 29 in Camden Town (London) 14th of October 2013

we were taking the elevator down to the restrooms. so far the day had been a blast, like it is every time coming to a new city. there was just way too much to see, way too many people with faces and eyes and I just didn't know where to look. Camden Town crashes down on you without a warning, soaks you in in a way, you feel so alienated from the rest of the world that in some way you wish you could just stay there forever. and it had already been a lot to take in and a lot to consider. in big cities with many people around I tend to end up not knowing where to look. sure there had been people to take photos of, faces to remember, but there was no time, no peace, no moment for it.
anyway, the elevator was opening and we stepped out of it. I didn't think of anything in that exact moment and caught her glimpse from one of the doors directly in my direction. and within a second, a smile hushed over her lips.
I don't know what it was with that smile. maybe it was the fact that it came so suddenly, that it was so dear, candid, genuine. but I felt right away that there was something about this girl.
and for once I felt as though I had known her. as though we were two friends running into each other and just catching up a little. she hugged me in the end. the warmth of some people can lift your spirits for such a long time.
