Forgotten voodoo doll waiting for a better time... I really like it, maybe could you put your dark lighting touch on it ?

Thanks. Maybe, there are a few of my old pen drawings that I'm tempted to redo digitally.

why does this voodoo doll has wings? i hope you don't want to harm an angel! that wouldn't be cool.
i want to make a doll out of wax.

It has wings because I drew them there, don't really have a better answer than that :]
Would you use your wax doll in rituals? Who would it be in effigy of?

It's a good, question, I'm wondering what my reason was now too.
Unlike my digital art, most of my pen work wasn't sketched out or planned.
I just followed the lines, no erasers, what the surrealists would consider automatism.

maybe it comes from your good heart, that rejects voodoo ceremonies.

My narrative-oriented mind made me imagine it in the background of a manga page panel or something, being modest yet somehow drawing the eye of people like me

Funny, knowing your style, I imagined it on a manga page as well.
I had no idea what manga was when I drew it.

I could easily picture this lil guy in a Berserk panel. Boy does that one have beautiful artwork

Yeah, nice stuff.
When I was a young teen I started designing some comic book characters. I think that was sort of the style I envisioned.
Do you plan to make a comic?

saikatsuki In reply to nilwilnil [2016-08-06 18:44:09 +0000 UTC]

I plan on several, two dark fantasy ones and two modern urban setting ones. At least so far. The dark fantasy ones are like 90% written.
I simply need to stop being a coward and go for it. The urban ones are things I wanna do when I'm like 50 or something and understand the world differently, cause one is meant to be a dark sort of satire on how twisted humans are and the other is about a guy that wanders around the earth and meets different people, living many stories to their end. I don't consider myself mentally capable of writing those two yet

Those sound good. The one I started was kind of like your first urban one, I never thought it through completely.
It was going to be dark and dirty and grungy. A few mercenary types, not good or evil,
probably with questionable morals standard, some human, some not quite.
I made a slew of other characters when I was even younger, never meant to be a comic though.
They were half human, half animal soldiers modeled after the artwork on GI Joe action figure packages.
How old are you? I'm 42, not even sure they still make GI Joes.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing your comics when they're done, they sound like interesting ideas.

Thanks, and I do have faith in my storytelling talent, personally.
It's funny though cause the first of both urban setting ones I described was initially meant to be a visual novel, you know, read and click to keep reading with pictures and music, maybe voice acting too. In that way, that one in particular is a lot less of a comic/manga than the others and more of a novel, especially considering that the characters are all strictly human and can't do anything fancy. The other one about the wanderer is something I want to resemble Mushishi to an extent. I'm watching it and frankly it's becoming my favorite thing ever really fast.

I'm exactly half your age right now but I'll turn 22 in October. I wouldn't know if they still make GI Joe merch since I'm so disconnected from the world most of the time...

I just looked at Mushishi. Looks like I was more into manga style than American comic style
before I was even exposed to it. I didn't draw those anime style faces though. There was an art magazine called Heavy Metal,
like the old movie. I think I drew some inspiration from a few of the comics they had in that.
But of course, despite unavoidable influence, I tried and try to make things my own.

Yeah, I can't stand seeing every manga and anime out there looking the exact same nowadays. It's like you can swap characters around to no end and no one would notice they aren't from the same source. It's something I'm trying to avoid, it'd be nice if people in the future can see one of my drawings and tell it's mine. I'll look up this Heavy Metal mag now

S&M is just human nature, but some take it to further extremes than others ;]

I just looked at some of Bellmer's and the brother's work. Interesting stuff, going to look at more.
