I'm so in love with your style since it what I want to achieve too. My only problem is getting the shading right. I kinda improved how to get the muscles look good and stuff but I really seem so suck at smudging. :C It moves around and doesn't look just soft and smooth - I read you just use the normal smudge brush and low power but hooooow does it get so good?

If you merge your lines with the white base, then mask other colors on top of it, how is your lineart still showing? Also, do you ever change the color of your lines? if so, how do you do that? :/

I'm putting all of the colours on the one same layer on the top of the mask one and the important thing is that the layer with colours is set to multiply mode^^ and therefore, the colour of lines will change while you will be colouring on the top of them :3

This has been insanely helpful. I've been having some trouble making my characters look like they should be a part of the background.

YUSHHH finally!! Okay so for the actual blending, you use a smudge brush? What settings? You make it look so smooth... mine always drags and looks weird :/

Depends in which program c:
In photoshop I'm simply using the standard smudge one but with lowered intensity. In CSP-MangaStudio 5 it's a bit harder, i have come up with a more or less normal smudge tool after loads of tries, settings changes, tortures and sufferings xD

You're sosososo welcome!!! <3
Sure!
Look, firstly, I create the multiply layer with the opacity of 36-40% and with the colour of the coat (for example) but desaturated. With a usual Clip Studio ink pen, I draw the cell shading. Then, I use the smudge brush to soften it and to correct it. Secondly, over it, I create a new multiply layer with the same opacity as the previous one, and with the same colours and draw the same cell shading for depth. Then smudge again. And, finally, I do the screen and/or the soft light layer and paint with white on low opacities, and then softly smudge them. For the highlights I'm usually using the simple round brush with soft edges :3
That's it!
