“Alright class, for today, we will be dissecting the rare Northern Bald Ibis.” Dr. Stein announced.

You sighed in slight annoyance, watching the scene unfold from the shadows. You weren’t really social, and preferred to sit alone in the seat of the dark corner. Most people didn’t even know you were in the class, as you always arrived early, and left late to avoid interaction. It’s not that you hated people, it’s just that you were sort of shy and had no idea how to talk with others. However, you did have the female twins, Hikari and Hikaru, your two weapons who could turn into two katanas, as your close friends. You three had made a promise to never leave each other when you’d all first met. You never thought once that you’d ever need anyone else.

Maka raised her hand and said, “Dr. Stein, if it’s an endangered animal, then shouldn’t we be protecting it instead of dissecting it?”

The man’s glasses glinted, “Heheheheh, all the more reason to cut it open. The rarer a species is, the better.”

Preparing to make an incision into the poor bird, suddenly the man was tackled by a black and white blur. “No, don’t touch him! He’s so symmetrical and perfect!”

You sweatdropped, as Hikari and Hikaru giggled in amusement. “Hey, Hikaru, Hikari who’s that?” You asked, pointing to the crying idiot. The boy was rather… unique, with his black hair that had three white stripes streaking across one side of his head. He also had piercing yellow eyes, well, at least you thought he would. Maybe his eyes would be intensely gold when he wasn’t sobbing over the possible destruction of such beauty and perfection.

Your weapons laughed again, saying, “Oh that’s Death the Kid, or Kid for short. He obviously has an obsession with symmetry, if you can’t see that already.”

Looking back at the black and white clad male, you made a note in your head to avoid him. You didn’t think you’d be able to stand such… energy. Though, you’re sure that the boy would be better company than the loud, obnoxious Black Star. “He looks like trouble. We better not get involved with the likes of him.”

Hikari nodded as Hikaru stated, “Well, it’ll be hard, especially if he gets a glimpse of you.” Confused, you turned to stare at the twins questioningly. Before you could ask what Hikaru meant, Dr. Stein finally pried Kid off of him.

Sighing dejectedly, the gray haired man said, “Class, there’s been a change of plans. Instead of dissecting the symmetrical specimen, we’ll be practicing your fighting techniques outside. The first two pairs that will be engaging in the battle will be (Name), Hikaru, and Hikari and Kid, Elizabeth, and Patty.”

Flinching, you sighed in exasperation. Of course the moment when you decide to avoid a person, someone makes it inevitable to meet with them. Practically all of the students were confused at the first three names - (Name), Hikaru, and Hikari? They’ve never heard of them before. Usually Dr. Stein never called on you, but you guessed that he had different motives today. Yes, motives, you swore the man was always manipulating people for an experiment.

Stepping out into the air outside, you were greeted by the three people you would be fighting. Death the Kid already had Liz and Patty in their gun forms. “Guys, transform.” Your weapons did as told, and became two shining, silver katanas that you held in each hand. Getting into a battle stance, you called, “Let’s go.”

When the male saw you, his eyes widened in astonishment. Ignoring his reaction, you rushed towards him and sliced in an x shape, only for the teen to jump back. The battle continued with you attempting to slash him, only for the male to dodge. Why the hell wasn’t he attacking back?

“Kid! You have to fight her! You’re going to lose!” Liz exclaimed, but the boy refused to even shoot a single bullet in the general direction of where you were.

Stopping, the boy threw a tantrum, flailing his arms. “No! Look at her, she’s symmetry personified! I mean, she even has identical twins as her weapons! She’s too perfectly beautiful!” He yelled, pointing at you (with both arms for symmetry).

You blushed a bright red at his compliment and tried to hide your burning face with your (h/l) (c/l) hair. “Hikari and Hikaru, let’s just end this. I don’t want to deal with him any longer. Soul Resonance!” You three synchronized your wavelengths and your twin katanas glowed in a bright, white light, blinding Kid. You began slicing at the air, sending waves of your wavelength traveling about 15 mph at him. They were too fast for Kid to dodge, especially when unable to see, so he was hit by the compressed wavelengths and was knocked to the ground. Glaring at Stein, you concluded, “There, we’ve won. I’m going now.”

Hikari and Hikaru returned to their normal human forms and followed after you. However, another three people were chasing you as well. Technically, it was one person, an annoying, symmetry loving person coming for you, and his two partners chasing after him.

“Guys, let’s walk faster.” Quickening your pace, you peered back to see the male a few feet behind, running at full speed. “N-no, stop it!” He didn’t stop in time, crashing into you and bringing you down with him.

“H-hey, (Name), was it? Want to eat lunch together, please?” He implored.

“Nononononono, please go away.” It was too late though, as you were being dragged by the stronger male to the lunch room, with Hikaru snickering from behind while Hikari was wiggling her eyebrows at you. Thanks a lot, you two. It’s so nice to know that you could rely on your weapons to save you from weirdos.

Kid brought you over and sat you down next to him, while Hikari sat on your other side. Hikaru was seated next to her sister. It was incredibly awkward, as all of Kid’s friends were staring at you. Flushing in embarrassment and also shyness, you instantly took to looking at your hands in your lap. “U-um, hello.” Your adorableness coupled with your symmetry almost made Death the Kid swoon.

The next past weeks consisted of the male following you around and fawning over you as you tried to hide your face in your arms and the mischievous twins were enjoying your embarrassment.

- Time Skip -

Months had passed, and you were surprised to become really close to Death the Kid. To think that when you’d first seen him, you were planning to avoid him. Your weapons had finally consumed ninety-nine Kishin egg souls each and you were planning to hunt down two witches. Lord Death had assigned you three to take down Lady Red and Lady Black. You can infer from the names that Lady Red enjoyed watching her victims bleed, while Lady Black used shadow magic.

Setting off for the journey, you were unaware of what horrors would later happen. Even before arriving to the witches’ castle, you three were ambushed by the two opponents. Caught completely off guard, you would have taken two fatal blows if it wasn’t for your weapons shielding you. They both fell to the ground in immense pain, as the witches cackled and fled. The two antagonists decided to leave you alive because they were incredibly sadistic. Lady Red and Black wanted you to feel guilt over being the only one to survive - and it worked.

Falling down to your weapons’ side you grasped one of their hands in each of yours. Attempting to stay calm you yelled, “Hikari, Hikaru, keep your eyes open! Don’t you dare die on me!”

Hikari chuckled a little, then coughed up blood. With a trail of the coppery liquid running down her mouth, she tried to say, “(N-name), sorry…”

Hikaru finished her sentence, “We’re not going to make it.”

Shaking now, you screamed, “Shut up! Don’t say that! What about our promise? You guys promised me that we’d always be together! You can’t break a promise!”

The bloodied twins tried to smile, but resulted in a grimace. “(Name), we’re so happy to have met you. However, we’re even happier that you’ve met Kid. We always worried that you would be lonely, that you never had enough friends. We knew that we weren’t enough. But because you’ve met Kid and he introduced his friends, we know you won’t ever be sad from now on. Now we can die in peace knowing that he’ll be there for you.”

“N-no, stop it.”

“(Name), take care of yourself. We lov-” Their eyes rolled to show white.

“G-guys? Okay, stop it. Stop pretending to be dead.” You starting shaking them, refusing to believe that they were gone. “YOU IDIOTS! WHY DID YOU SAVE ME?” You began full-on screaming in anguished rage. “STUPID, STUPID, STUPID! YOU’VE LOST YOUR LIVES FOR AN EVEN BIGGER IDIOT THAN YOURSELVES!” You lost the energy to yell, instead whispering, “P-please, come back.”

They didn’t. They broke their promise.

- Time Skip -

A month had passed since your weapon’s deaths. You haven’t cried once, only resorting to isolating yourself in your room.

Death the Kid was worried about you. He’d just returned from his own mission, only to hear from his father the terrible news. He knew you needed him, and left Liz and Patty with his father to run to your dorm. Knocking, he received only silence. The door was locked, but no matter how much he knocked nor asked you to open up, you wouldn’t respond. Thus, he kicked the door open.

You sat on your bed, staring out the window with a glazed look in your eyes. You slowly turned to him with eyes almost as dead as Hikari and Hikaru’s. Kid said nothing and took you into his arms, stroking your hair. You broke down and cried for the first time, grasping onto him as if he were your lifeline.

- Time Skip -

You were slowly healing with support from Kid. However, you were agitated again when you learned that he was going to fight the Kishin, Asura, from Lord Death. You couldn’t participate because you were currently weaponless. Kid himself hadn’t even told you, so you rushed to see him before he left.

“Kid!”

The boy was surprised to see you because he had thought and hoped that he could keep the newest objective a secret. Death the Kid was further stunned when you slapped him roughly across the face.

“You idiot, were you planning to leave without saying goodbye?”

“Ah, sorry.” That was all he could say right then.

You grabbed his shoulders and kissed him hard as Kid’s eyes widened. Pulling back, you whispered, “Idiot, you better come back safe and sound.”

After regaining his thought process, the teen chuckled and patted your head. “Of course.” Heading for the DWMA’s exit, he looked back once to add, “It’s a promise.”

He didn’t break it.
