Description Palomar Mountain, April 2007.

Snow+fog=cold.

Palomar Mountain, place of an observatory. There are 4 telescopes used during the night. Anyway, we arrived by the time they were closing. We stayed out just to take a few photos. Check =fLOWsd 's gallery for more (digital) pics to come (?).

Voigtlander, Bessa R3M, scan from neg, levels, converted to B&W.

Thanks for commenting.

Snow and fog make photos that are not so easy to take but a real success when they're good!

Me revoila...

like the mood of this shot.

get some agfa apx100, nice b/w film. you have some b/w film already? which one?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nirka In reply to kerian [2007-05-06 21:33:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
For my Holga, I got Ilford HP5, Ilford delta 400 and Kodak Tri-x Pro.
For the Bessa, I have only Kodak Tri-X and Ilford Delta 400.
I like the Kodak Tri-X a lot (developed with Ilfosol-S). So far, it gives nice results.
Unfortunately, I'm not experienced enough to say that one is better than the others, and to distinguish the qualities of each of them... still have to shoot a lot!

kerian In reply to Nirka [2007-05-06 22:58:02 +0000 UTC]

I shoot Agfa APX 100, APX 400, Fuji Neopan 400 and Neopan 1600. Haven't shot any Ilford yet, but have heard it's not a too good film. Tri-x has a good reputation, obviously it also performs well when pushed to higher speeds like 1600 or 3200. We process everything with Xtol actually. Just know that the guys (Severin/kinderschokolade, Bernhard/zort) were experimenting with different chemicals and found Xtol to work best. Something like that. At least Tri-X and Xtol are both Kodak products.

Anyway .. same here, couldn't say much about performance of different films, that's still what I have to learn .

yea, he was banned some time ago. have a look at my blog (linked on my main page) and click on severin / bernhard to get to their blogs. could be interesting work. jamie stoker is good to, as well as markus/radiohat, like his stuff

The developing solution had to be used within 1 year after opening. I opened it in January 2006. So their instructions are very precised!!
I bought X-tol for developing (I didn't open it yet!) but I still have a fixation solution from Ilford. I'll tell you what I found best (X-tol vs Ilfosol, even though it looks like more experienced photographers have already chosen! Good to know!). With Ilfosol, you know the developing time required for Kodak films because included in their instructions (which it's not the case for X-Tol about Ilford films).
I know a guy, here on DA, who develops his films with coffee... I can give you the recipe if you want. It works pretty nicely!
As you say, even though it's tough, I have to learn the hard way!!
Get to try the Neopan sometime.

bernhard sent me a link to coffee processing lately. could be fun to try out once. btw, stupid question, but you take care that no air mixes with the developer? we always press the air out of the xtol bottle to avoid reactions with oxygen which would destroy the developer faster.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nirka In reply to kerian [2007-05-07 17:02:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes i watch out for air in the bottle... in my own way (by using parafilm). Anyway, it took me so much time to use just one bottle. This year, I have more time to take pictures, more negs to process and more developer to use!

Snow + "frog" ? En effet, des grenouilles et de la neige donnent souvent une froide journée ! Très belle photo blague a part ! L'athmosphere est magnifiquement rendue et le couple qui marche lui donne toute son Òme. Bien joué !
