You'd think Monsieur le Maire is all nice and gentleman-like, with his little smile and his soft voice, but NO, he is secretly a very mean person. It makes Javert sad.I think I was the only person in our cinema who laughed at this part.

I didn't laugh at that scene, I said, "Awww," out of sympathy for Javert. Under the circumstances, Valjean-as-Madeleine can be forgiven for that remark (which is literally true) but in that scene I always get the impression that Javert believes the Mayor is calling him either ugly, or forgettable, or both. Poor Javert! Anyway, I very much like your portrayal of that scene. Well done!
