***Prologue***

Pokémon are truly fascinating creatures. There are 493 that have been discovered so far, each sporting an elemental type or combination of types. These magnificent creatures can learn innumerable attacks, each with a type and an effect that can aid its user in battle. Most amazingly, Pokémon can evolve, changing form and occasionally type. Nearly everyone in the world knows something about Pokémon.
But most people don't know that in an alternate plane of existence to our own is a world inhabited solely by Pokémon. Yes, it's true. In this world, humans don't exist… at all. Pokémon live in close harmony with each other here, working together much as we do here. They have shops, houses, entire towns; each Pokémon does his or her part to ensure that the community thrives.
In this world, Pokémon often form groups called Exploration Teams and travel their world, offering help to any who may need it. They will delve into caves and forests if the need arises.
Once, a human found himself in this world of Pokémon, existing as a Pokémon himself -- a Torchic, to be precise. Without any memory of his true identity or past, this human, Ginji, teamed up with a rather cowardly Piplup; together, they formed an Exploration Team and Ginji travelled throughout this strange new world, seeking answers to the mystery of his identity.
One adventure followed another, leading the duo through howling blizzards and scorching deserts, up mountains and down to the bottom of the sea. After all was said and done, Ginji discovered the truth about himself and was offered the chance to return to the world he once knew. But Ginji chose to stay; he knew who he was, and he now knew that he was where he truly belonged.
Over many years, Ginji gained great respect, going on countless missions with an ever-expanding team. Yet he never forgot who he truly was, and he began to yearn for the chance to see his old world, if only just once…

This is the tale of that chance.
