Lately been trying to do a bit more personal piece, been doing this style lately for work concept,etc but most stuff can't be shown, so I thought to try it out on some personal pieces, well kinda, this was for this week's CA.org Character design activity. The topic was Saladin~"Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn - known in the west much more often as "Saladin". Military Commander, Conqueror, and ultimately a Sultan, he trounced the Franks quite a few times during the crusades!"

He was so awesome! To think that no one ever again managed to unify all the Muslims in the Levant by sheer strength of character. I consider him one of my heroes, and it pains me he doesn't even appear in AC1!

He's one of my favorite military figures because, DANG IT, he was brilliant and pretty honorable. Heck, he and RICHARD THE FREAKIN' LIONHEART had rather nice things to say to each other. Richard said Saladin was the greatest leader in the Islamic world and, in return, Saladin said that there was no Christian lord more honorable than Richard.
And people say that Christians and Muslims can't be friends...

It is an excellent work, this one, love it and love it more because is based in an interesting historic warlord from crusades, who taught radical Christians that they don't simply own Jerusalem.

Too bad that in real life he wasn't always as "noble" as people claim he was :C Unlike what they showed at the movie "kingdom of heaven" he sold the entire city of Jerusalem into slavery, and only those that could pay an outregeous sum of money were allowed to go :C

My friend, I have no idea what so ever, from where you got your horrid information... Saladin would have NEVER sold ANYTHING into slavery... He was a REALLY generous man... Hell, he even showed mercy to enemies who oppose no threat... :/

ShadowGhostZ , I'm afraid that nobody is quite that perfect: to get to where he was saladin had to be quite ruthless; whilst in Egypt, he burned his own soldiers and their families alive whilst they were trapped inside their barracks, because they MIGHT have mutinied against him. That'a pretty harsh if you ask me...

Great drawing and composition, the drawing looks as if this guy is ready to jump outta the screen. But he looks very samurai, and he´s more midle eastern type.
