...you know it's about to get serious in an anime. Generally the scenarios are as follows:

1.) Character is about to get their butt kicked into next Tuesday.

2.) Character is having a deep inward discovery that requires a breeze-blown, wide-eyed look.

3.) Somebody just died before character's eyes.

4.) Character just died.

5.) Character is humiliated suddenly and in front of many people.

6.) Character is tip-toeing the line between utter silence and an emotional outburst, thus needs hair in face.

7.) Gallons of blood are about to illogically burst from character's body.
