What a wonderful sculpt very very well done . The armor looks quite accurate and the pose is excellent although he is holding the katana incorrectly (but I wouldn't expect anyone to know that unless they train in martial arts). Oh and the katana and wakizashi (short sword) are always carried with the blade facing upwards. Also note that this is actually a samurai and not an ashigaru (ashigaru are lower rank warriors and wouldn't have had the same armor). Horns attached to the helmet also indicate what rank the samurai holds. The bigger the horns the higher his rank .

Oh crap I just realized I talk too much. Sry mate didn't mean to be a nuisance but I tend to get hyped up when talking about samurai heheheh .

Again I have to complement you on your work it's great. I hope you texture it or paint it. Straight to my faves

Heyy eheh, no problem I appreciate the feedback, especially from someone that knows what he's talking about Excellent eheh , be sure that I'll correct all that when I paint it.
I did some research about the armor, but it's kind of hard to find someone dressed with it, and specially in the right stance.
Thanks a lot for tips and nice feedback.
Cheers mate

Hehe no probs mate . I suggest that you have a look at this video cause somewhere around the two minute mark people wearing authentic armor, show proper stances and fighting techniques with a pose similar to yours.

This is actually part of a demo by Hatsumi Masaaki sensei who is the current Grand Master of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Hope it helps

uau awesome, I'll be checking out more of Taijutsu's stuff, the techniques are impressive, generally in movies samurai stuff is too lame. I would give my right ball to see one actual samurai fight.
I love the samurai figure, visually and conceptually, armor(all the symbolism), the Bushido code, all the fighting and duel rituals and morals, just love it.
I'm reading Miyamoto Musashi's "Book of the Five Rings" and beside he wasn't a noble his views of the art are fascinating, he really inspired me to model this one.

Many thanks for the vid, I'll be changing a bit more then the swords position on the next version of this guy. eheh

Cheers m8

Yeah I'm also obsessed with the samurai ideology and symbolism. I believe that that was one of the main reason for me starting training in martial arts haha The closest thing to a real samurai fight one might find in a movie is "The Last Samurai"

And Musashi was on a level of his own, his philosophy and wisdom is other-worldly. In Japan his teachings are still applied (especially in the business industry).

I'm glad I could be of help

Great job indeed, wonderful sculpting but he looks more of a Samurai to me than an Ashigaru. And you got the swords wrong, they should be carried with the cutting edge up, not down. CanΒ΄t wait to see him textured, well done indeed!!!

Ehheh youre right , he his a samurai he started as a ground troop but I got exited and "blossed" him to a full elite
As for the swords, I didn't notice that, thanks for for the advice, I'll correct that when I paint it.
I really enjoyed you knowing all that stuff about Samurai.
Cheerss and many thanks

No problem mate, youΒ΄ve done a top notch artwork here, I really envy you! I used to be a military figure modeler, done a lot Samurais and lot of research. Katanas were always carried cutting edge up, the ones carried the "western way" called Tachi and had even a belt. Glad to help mate, anytime....
