Description
Portrait of Romania's national poet Mihai Eminescu [link] , done for an exhibition being held in Bucharest, Romania by the Cartoonists Association of Romania. His poems are lovely, there are some English translations online that were done really well.Lately everything I draw and paint seems to be empty and unsatisfactory. I wanted to capture an intelligent man with a fathomless mind, a genius if you like. I'm not sure if I have succeeded. I found myself obsessing more over the fact that I'm painting a person who is no longer alive, which is why the texture is the way it is...? orz
I'm no longer happy with just plain realism, but the new style I'm developing is proving to require too much time. At this rate, I will either starve or be frustrated to death.

Also one of Europe's and worlds greatest poets of all time ! A genious man with a tragic destiny just like all of it's kind. Great minds don't live the life as mediocre minds do ... and most of them they exit it very quickly !

It's hard to draw the feeling out of photograph, I think. Maybe if you ever meet a real person like him, you can draw something you feel different. Wise man has power to keep people close to him, I'll say there is some kind of magnetic force he has within himself. Even if you and him never know each other, the force will makes you to try to know him.

I really like the texture 
The lyrics on the background are from "The Evening Star", right? [not sure if that is the correct English title since I am Romanian and read the poem in Romanian as well

The whole colour scheme and texture your going for does give the feel of painting a dead-man's potrait. Someone had been and left a legacy behind.
The light canvas strokes around the face are gorgeous <3
Though I feel background graphics abit too much? Issit graphics?
