its an HP printer all in one,  maybe import into a photo editor program after the scan can bump up the contrast a bit?

Ahhh, I thought it would be canon. Well, I think I should get me one of those instead. And I've tried your suggestion, but my drawings come out all grainy...plus you can see some dust particles too. I've lost hope with my All-in-one dell printer. -___-
