WE can run into depressing times, hard times, difficult times, whichever way you want to interpret it. But what we need to know is, that we can still breath. By breathing deeply during those times, at least a few times, you will start to calm yourself, and be able to just be peace.Β
That's at least how I see it. And it always worked for me. By just breathing, especially deep breaths.

Sometimes, only sometimes, it can help to tell your mind that your feelings are only feelings, they come and they go but they are only feelings. The feelings are not you, they are separate from your self. They may feel overwhelming and so powerful that the mind can not think of anything else but they are still only feelings.
It is important to have feelings, to allow them to be, not to suppress them. It is also important to keep trying to be in the "here and now" with your mind.
Have you heard of Mindfulness?

i forgot to add XD : at the end, I'd say that isn't the best idea to manipulate your mind that feelings are just feelings at any occassion (but hey, logically, it sounds like a good idea!) because of the result later. It's manipulating with yourself and your self existence along with your consciousness, sub and feelings. And that part should remain the most true. In the pure truth. Even through manipulating is a way just to chill out yourself.Β
I don't appreciate (though, again, rationally, it's better for our system of our humanity from cities!) ability of people that can manipulate, pretend or hide feelings (even just in a good way, in way that they think that they can protect themselves!). The best is... to let them to go in true state but in a safe way :>
Such like, speak out what you feel (without blaming the world and yourself too much) and get people who can listen you out and send positive energy, thoughts or just words. Easy, but that's the inter-relations with humans. A little thing.

Mindfulness is all about the "here and now". It is a way of protecting your self from depression. Part of it is the circle of mindfulness which goes: perceive -> accept -> let go -> perceive ...
Practicing mindfulness for a few minutes everyday can lead to a more relaxed attitude towards your feelings, regardless of how difficult a phase of life you're currently going through.
I absolutely agree that feelings are important and that you're not supposed to suppress them. Being aware/mindful about them is not suppressing them. It is also not about rationalizing them away or brushing them off as unimportant.
Still, they are feelings, your self is more, much more than those feelings and the goal is to not allow them to overpower everything else, so that you will not become paralyzed and unable to do/think anything at all.
An example of mindfulness:
You could hear a loud noise and immediately become annoyed or angry, because of previous bad experience that has gone into your consciousness or subconsciousness. That feeling of anger is not you. It is a feeling. By being mindful about it, you could just describe the perception "there was a loud noise" without judging it or jumping through to the automated feeling which is triggered by previous experience, accept it and let it go without getting angry.
By doing that, over a long period of time, we can discover which feelings are real and which feelings are because of previous unfortunate conditioning of our minds.

Personally I don't agree that feelings are a separate thing and as well just "only". Feelings (the true ones, without pretending) are beyond the mind (mind is a collection of informations of what we learned (like an encyclopedia of words and codes) and that comes from the OUTSIDE world. All what mind has collected is outer thing, not real you. Feelings are something that is in yourself. Feel of spirit, energy and existence. Feelings are along with intuition and your existence. Feelings are beyond the mind.
Though, faster I'd say it's all about what our subconsciousness has coded for us.
But I agree it's about ability of "be here and now"...Β

thanks, i am glad you view me like that but I need to be a better person for myself. Seeing myself in that state, I feel like I have a big hole in my subconsciousness...

I really hope you find the peaceful lake within the dark clouds of your troubles...I love the symbolism...idk...the whole description, the picture itself, it really makes me think, and wonder about all the meanings. So far I've got five different interpretations.
