My camera isn't bad but for some reason it always bumps up the ISO and makes everything grainy, and I always have to go back and fix it

That's bad, but maybe you can change the camera motion sensitivity and picture resolution, Worked for me on my camera ;D

It works fine if I use the flash, regardless if the flash does anything or not to the subject XD
