Page 21 Author's Notes:
Matron has disappear to the door (a la her shadow) and the kids all break into talking about the general suckiness of their predicament as Wicked Children. Then ... Headmaster Dorian Lamprey walks in.

So that is probably not good ... Especially for three of the students in the room.

Infinite Spiral: Chapter One: Awakening
James Hartwell and Christian Rafferty aren't your average tweens and teens. The two are considered Wicked Children, which means they are a mixture of human and unknown, feared "magical" beings, that have since seemed to disappear. What is in their past? What is in their future? And how does Rory connect to them? Who was that white haired youth? What's next?

That's one great dialogue exchange -complex yet so easy to read. You're a master of page layout.

Thanks! I can't really take the credit-had a killer teacher that's voice sticks in my head when I break natural eye flow rules or work on speech balloons. (I'm sure he'd have some suggestions with this page--he's a good teacher, and a good comicker).

There's teachers for speech balloon flow? Really? Wow. Didn't know that.

Well, we had a lesson (and a lot of critiques on our work). And referenced a ton of Scott McCloud. You kind of have to experience a Ryan Claytor class to know what I mean, I think. Since the university offers on one class on making comics, the man does a great job a cramming in key topics with assignments and examples to back it up. Amazing stuff (and hard work). He reads and reviews a ton of comics in his free time, so is always finding amazing examples for students to show how things work (and don't work).

The concept of a university that offers a course in comic-making is in and of itself mind-boggling to me.

More of them should offer it! I learned all kinds of skills I've been able to apply to game, experience, and web design related to how comic readers read, storytelling (supplementing what I learned from creative writing courses), color theory, and layout principles. (of course, actual art majors learn those in foundations, but I kind of came through the back door on all this). I could have done for a few more classes with the workshop style approach.

A perfectly fabulous way to be. Set precedent without imitation. Puck is such a blast.

...I'm starting to think I was assuming the wrong thing about the eyes. Eye thing relates to the secret about to come out, doesn't it? For some reason my brain was trying to peg it as something separate. LOL

Thanks! I hope you continue to enjoy it now that your interest is peaked. I just figured out some new techniques to get toward the style I see in my head, so bear with any older pages you read. ^_^

Thanks--learning to tweak brush settings so they actually take advantage of a tablet definitely helps! I hope every page gets better than the last. It is nice that I have a train ride to commute now, which means 20 minutes of sketching each way. Practice (and thinking time!) I stopped drawing for a few years between college and grad school, so I've been playing serious catch-up (not to mention some relearning).

I think I must have stopped for 4-6. It got really thin even in college because I took some art classes and wasn't mature enough to understand what professors were trying to teach me.

Of course, now I'm a UX designer (as of October), so I'm doing art on the side. However, I really feel like this is a case where the two fuel each other.
