so today is self portrait day, and I've had this idea simmering in my brain for some time.it's a very blatant reference to a painting by Jan Matejko:

This feels scary, haunting and yet fascinating.
It reminds me of some paintings the director Dante Tomaselli used in his movie "Horror". There is a scene in which you see the portrait of a grandfather gradually transform into a goat-head, and they did this effect by filming different paintings, so it's literally a "gradually" change. They had one portrait for every change. I always liked that, even though it's a dated effect. Today's hollywood would most likely do that with CGI.

tak właściwie to bardzo lubię symboliczne akcenty i taki surrealizm, więc cudownie mi się patrzy na ten obraz, szczególnie kolorystyka wygrywa (prawie odwrotna do tej na stańczyku, w sensie zimna)

mostly because it's so well known here in Poland and has very strong symbolic value - and, it is actually said to be a self-portrait of the artist as well!
