Description     Here in Greece we don't have dinosaur fossils, due to the fact that through the Mesozoic, this country was part of Tethys' bottom. But neither marine reptiles nor pterosaurs have been found. The only creature known from Greece that lived during Mesozoic was a Triassic ammonite, the one you can see here, named Gymnites obliquus (Mojsisovics 1882).
It lived during late Anisian to middle Ladinian of early Triassic (240-233 M.y.a) and it's fossils were found in Argolis of South Greece. It was a small sized cephalopod with a 13 cm long diameter shell belonging to the family Gymnitidae of the Ammonoidea subfamily. They were nektonic carnivores living in the ancient sea of Tethys and as an order in generall, Ammonites were very succesful. Amazing creatures and I am very happy to see that we actually have a prehistoric animal, that isn't a Cenozoic mammal, here in my country. I also imagine it swimming in what is now my village, despite the fact that I live northern.

I hope that you'll like it and find it pretty interesting as well!!

Also, first Gymnites on DA!
