By "NCC type" you mean the non-refitted type as seen on Generations, right?
It should be noticed, there is no such thing as a "NCC type" and "NX type" as NX is always the first ship of that class while in experimental stage. The "NX-class" thing from Enterprise was an error. If anything, it was supposed to be "Enterprise-class"
anyways, beautiful image. I always preferred the original Excelsior design over the Enterprise-B. Those weird things they added to the hull served no purpose at all, and just made the ship uglier. Not to mention totally canon-breaking.

NX and NCC type is a discrimination between the ST3 setup and the ST6 setup (that was used everywhere from then on). They do have structural differences. The only two NX type ships ever seen onscreen where the NX-2000 and the first showing of the USS Hood. The Generations Enterprise B is everywhere referred to as the Lakota type (since the DS9 ship was a remarking of the Ent-B studio model from the movie). I have included renders of the NX, NCC and DS9 era NCC types here, go look at allof them and you'll notice differences.

... the differences are so vague, its not even worthy of mentioning.

But they do exist, and they're not that vague. The bridge is a lot taller for one, and the tail has an extra 3 decks worth of structure that was replaced from that spherical one. It is a difference if you would actually walk both ship's interiors.

Yeah, I just didnt see anything on the underside - I noticed stuff when I saw the topside and compared them.

Oh, I was not aware there were differences between Star Trek III and VI, aside from the bridge. I'll look closer
