This pterosaur was seen in "Prehistoric Park" in the sixth episode "SuperCroc" - Deinosuchus. where one Nyctosaurus was eaten by a Deinosuchus it flying down for a another fish suddenly the Deinosuchus errupts out of the sea and ate it.

I have a theory that this crest had a membrane and was used as a sort of mix between third wing, thermoregulator and sign of sexual maturity.

NTamura In reply to Charanty [2011-09-17 23:44:53 +0000 UTC]

The sail theory was disproved by Benton... Careful examination of the "antler" bones show no evidence for membrane attachment...

Okay, why would they need it then?

i've seen the google images of this, i think it would look better if it had sort of a sail on its head. but yours is totally awesome too! ^^

NTamura In reply to puffdragon93 [2011-05-21 15:52:51 +0000 UTC]

Actually, more recent careful examinations of the fossils indicates that there was no skin attachment on the antler-like structures indicating that Nycto did not have a sail as was previously speculated.

Can't see this thing flying through forests, seems like the head gear would make that somewhat dangerous Wonder if it was some kind of rudder.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NTamura In reply to Ryivhnn [2011-05-07 03:22:08 +0000 UTC]

No, that was a sea pterosaur. Don't think it was a rudder either. It might have been for display but apparently both sexes had them. Also, only adults had antlers...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ryivhnn In reply to NTamura [2011-05-08 01:07:11 +0000 UTC]

That would make sense. Maybe both sexes displayed?
