Great set up. I love how the grasshopper is in focus, yet the leaves in the background aren't. You chose some great contrasting colors.

I've never seen a grasshopper like that before! Is that a leaf behind him/her?

Nicely done,
though I'm not too well-versed with photography
So I'll just list down my observations,-

I really like the negative space thing that's happening here.-
Dramatic and the overall contrast of your two subjects make sense...
It's very nice-

Lovely work, and thank you for sharing.

Very nice, clean shot. I must agree with mickdoesclick, the white area at the top of the shot is pretty distracting, but otherwise this is wonderfully crisp and I love the reflection. Insects have such intricate framework.

This is the type of shot that's called 'solid' as the basic features are all good.

The downside of this shot IMO, is that any 'space' should be placed in front of the moving object (in this case the cricket) unless there is something more interesting behind the moving thing than in front of it. In this case there isn't, so if possible, I'd be inclined to have the negative space in front of the cricket as viewers are typically more interested in where something is going rather than where it's been.

Having the negative space before the cricket would also counteract any perceptions/misconceptions about whether the antenna is/isn't chopped off (I've seen this problem several times). As someone else pointed out, it's not always possible as living things (especially bugs!) tend to more before you can get your hand out of the way.

I also agree with =mickdoesclick about the white space above the focus of the piece. However, I don't think it matters about the blurriness of the object in the background (as someone else suggested) as it is merely there for contrast; the grasshopper is the centre of attention.

Overall, I like it.

Ok, on Co-Ci-Mo you've asked for some CC & as I can see you've already gotten some.

First this is an amazing shot--your crits alone show this pic is very catching. It's eye catching & draws the viewer in--in other words, when scrolling down a page this stands out. That is one of the hardest things to achieve as an artist--how to capture the attention of you audience. You def capture the attention but holding it is a problem. When they sit & look @ it they start to notice things in the details of the shot that they dislike or wish was different.

Note: Don't focus so much on trying to make it "perfect" just focus now on improving what you already have--what you have is impressive!

I could go in & nit pick, but I think your biggest obsticle is negative space & lighting--which really, in your work is not that big of a problem. You've got 1/2 the battle down--keep going, keep shooting what you want to shoot & just think about your frame, let your eye really take in what's in your frame for the first few shots then go nuts!!!

Like I said, your work is already captivating. It's imaginative, unique, fun, & I get a sense it's all a reflection of you in one way or another which can speak volumes w/out talking @ all.

very surreal and dreamy, the reflection defiantly adds to that. although the flower is a little too fuzzy. and i know you can't help it but that humongous antenna or whatever kinda messes with the background.

I don't like that space on the right and I think that you shouldn't cut insect's antennas. Besides that it's really lovely and it has some atmosphere. ^^

Constructive criticism... here it goes

At first sight I really like it! Wonder how you took this shot?
But when looking closer there are a few things that could be better. Firstly, Id liek to see some more space on the left, so its 'voelsprieten' also would be totally on there in the reflection.
So shooting with more space and cropping it into the composition you like might be a good idea in cases like this

Second (and last ) thing is the fade from gray to white in the back. It kinda draws the attention away from the grasshopper since the white is so bright. But again, I dont know how you shot this, and well, a living creature isnt to easy to place to your likings.
