Sometimes I wish I had a time machine... just to slap myself in the face, really bad...
After finishing Artheyna 's commission at the weekend I thought about trying out something I haven't done at all yet and always wanted to try out myself: making an animated pixel doll. Being into Splatoon at the moment I wanted to make Melon my first (and maybe last) victim. Sure, making a pixel doll was and is a lot of fun - until you get to the animating part xD Especially when you rely on Photoshop to get stuff animated. For icons it's totally fine, however dolls like this one can be annoying... too many frames, way too many frames
Anyways, it turned out better than expected - not perfect, but still much better than expected. In the beginning I also wanted to animate Melon's bangs (which would've been a really bad idea and I'm glad I dropped it considering my frame frustration
)... Well, the animation still needs some fine tuning (right now she looks a little hyperactive in my opinion) and I believe I have to redo the border around Melon as - after saving it as a gif - turned out weird 
So expect this one to be updated tomorrow haha Till then... enjoy this version! I fixed the animation and the border now. This'll be the final version, enjoy it <3Other than that I'm off to bed~ Work's calling again, tomorrow, and I better get some sleep

Well... basically I used the pencil tool with hard edges instead of a brush with soft edges for doing this one. Other than that it's like working on a regular illustration. The animation is seperated in different frames, those are located on separate layers.
There are plenty of really helpful tutorials on DeviantArt if you look for "Pixel Art tutorial"

Same here, though personally I wouldn't consider myself a true pixel artists. I most likely do the pixel works in between my illustrations. But Pixelling is hard, and it sadly doesn't get recognized enough D:
