Description
The art xávega, of the Arab xabaka, is one of oldest and characteristic processes of fish artisan.
It is a type of fishing that one meets in extinguishing ways, and currently in the Portuguese coast there are very few people who dedicate to this kind of fishing.
It is a type of drag fishing in which a small boat with 6 to 8 men leaves land more than the 500 meters of distance of the coast, leaving a rope that is tied to the net. Also the used net in this type of fishes possesses proper characteristics, being constituted of the bag (where it accumulates the fish) and the ropes, that are pulled from land, initially by oxen, currently by tractors.
