Description In fact, the younger one is !ippa, but dA titles doesn't like !'s.

More of my ATLA OCs, brother duo Matata and !ippa! Say hi to them.

...yes, they are ATLA OCs, despite their looks. They are characters in Hou Tian RPG site ( [link] ), and they are from a desert tribe called Ukemanem, living in Si Wong desert. The tribe is very isolated, and they have their very own language and they can't understand the common language in the Avatar World. They are distant relatives to Air Nomads, and thus most tribesmen can airbend. Their culture is very nomadic, though: what you eat is what you have hunt or gathered.

And the boys' infos...

***

Name: Matata and !ippa ("!" means a click sound)
Age: Matata: 7 years old, !ippa: 3 years old
Gender: Male (both)
Sexual orientation: You can't tell it about that young children
Nationality: Ukemanem
Occupation: Young brothers from the Plains (their mother is a hunter/gatherer and father is a tailor/weaver)
Bender?: Matata isn't one, !ippa has potential for airbending
Alliance: Groupless

Appearance: The brothers appear much like your common Ukemanem boys of their ages: !ippa has still some baby fat, while Matata is your common boy with some bruises in his knees all the times. They both have black hair that is at least mostly shaven: Matata has a small ponytail in the back of his head, while !ippa is totally bald. They both wear usually simple loin cloths and have chocolate brown skin, full lips and gray eyes.

History: As anyone can count, the older brother Matata was born around 100 ASC. Not knowing about big phenomena happening that time, he grew up with his parents and liked to attend anything he could attend, was it playing music, helping Mommy with cooking or doing laundry, or gathering fruits. But a day, he noticed a thing he couldn't attend to: airbending classes. Being one of not-so-common Ukemanems without airbending skills, both Matata and his parents were some confused. The parents got used to the idea, though, but Matata was shocked for a good time. He envied those kids who could make all funny tricks with their airbeding skills.

Around 104 ASC, the younger brother, !ippa, was born. There was a kind of season when Matata was very jealous about his brother taking the attention of his parents, as many older siblings often have, and the situation got some darker-shaded when it seemed that !ippa had airbending potential. But after being told by Mommy that the !ippa was small and he needed more care and protection than older Matata, Matata got an idea to view !ippa as one way to prove his "greatness" – by being a great and skilled big brother that !ippa could admire and praise, even if !ippa had airbending potential and Matata not. Why not? Also their Daddy was very liked man, even if he had bad ankle and he couldn’t attend hunting, unlike Mommy; lacking a skill didn't prevent Daddy to be liked, so neither Matata. Perfect plan.

Aiming to be a great big brother for his younger brother, Matata also started to try to be good in other areas, too. Even if he usually wasn't the very best one in games or running contests, he developed great guts to anything he attended. He is a big boy, and big boys always tried their best, right?

Personalities:

Matata

Matata is very typical young boy: he is very eager to prove other people for big and skilled he is and that he is a big boy that shouldn't be underestimated. He is pretty stubborn little guy, and if he decides to do something, he can go even through a rock to achieve it. Sometimes he has little too much speed, causing him to get bruises and cuts now and then when he plays. Though, he is that big boy that he never cries about them, because big boys don't cry. Oh, okay, sometimes he may cry a little. But just a little, that little that big boys can cry without turning into little boys, because Matata thinks that he isn't a little boy.

Due his young age, Matata is rather moody: first, he may be overjoyed about catching a lizard, and next, he may be mad about someone stealing his favorite sitting place. Though, even if he may burst in anger by times and even slam other people by angering, he actually doesn't like violence and feels bad after calming down when he had hit someone. Matata has also funny habit to look utterly serious, wrinkle his nose and chuff powerfully when he is really concentrated on something.

Due his young age, Matata is pretty easy to get manipulated or distracted, even if he is some stubborn. You just have to use some plotting. Usually easiest way to lure Matata to do something is to say, "this is something that only big boys can do, this job is not given to babies".

Nowadays Matata has got mainly over his sense of separation with airbending people, even if he is still able to be seen watching airbending tricks and sighing deeply. Still, he has decided that had he born with or without airbending skills, he is going to be the best of the tribe in SOME area – he isn't sure what area this would be, but it must be something cool. Best hunter? Best weaver? Best harpist? He is open for suggestions.

!ippa

!ippa is pretty normal, though rather bubbly late-toddler that is curious about world around him. He is generally pretty fearless and happy little kid, rarely crying, except when he gets hurt after stumbling. He doesn't like to get hurt, you know. !ippa likes new things and, unfortunately, is too eager to examine the new things too well. Matata has often prevented his younger brother from eating sand, odd plants or other inedible things.

For now, !ippa hasn't any big future plans, but he enjoys greatly watching airbending tricks – and other funny tricks, too, they don't have to be airbending.

Relationship to each others

Even if Matata sometimes complains that !ippa is an annoying brat and even envies a little his airbending potential, the big brother is actually very fond of his little brother and gets very, very angry if someone tries to hurt !ippa. Or try to be better big brother to !ippa than Matata is. Also !ippa likes Matata a lot, and he shows it more clearly than his older brother. Brothers are usually seen together, and it's rather common to see Matata carrying !ippa in piggy-back.

Abilities: !ippa has potential for airbending, while Matata hasn't. Instead, Matata is very durable to do anything he is decided to do properly. He is in good shape, and he is one of fastest runners among the boys of his age in his tribe. !ippa hasn't any notable skills, yet, and he can't airbend properly, because he hasn't gained education yet. But occasionally he may cause coincidentally very small bursts of wind and such.

Family: Each others (brothers), Mommy (a hunter/gatherer), Daddy (a tailor/weaver). <> Everyone in the family, except Matata, are airbenders.

Mommy is very outdoor-type person, preferring to walk under hot sun instead of resting in shadows, that's why she has chosen her current occupations. Mommy doesn't fear to say aloud what she is thinking, and she keeps well discipline in her family. She reveals her emotions openly, and it's anything but unusual to see her choking hugging tightly her beloved ones.

Daddy, on the other hand, is rather calm and peaceful personality that is often seen to smile and rarely seen to talk. Main reason why he prefers not-so-mobile jobs is the fact that he twisted his ankle badly when he was young. He can walk perfectly normally, but running may twist his ankle again, so he prefers not to run if not forced. Thus, he is not very suitable for hunting. He is often the one that looks after Matata and !ippa, though in late years, the parents have made Matata to look after !ippa. Daddy has also taught some weaving to his sons.

The parents love dearly each others and their sons, and they give all assistance they can. Particularly Mommy is prone to praise Matata all times possible to prove him that he can work well even without airbending skills.

Friends: Other children of the tribe

Enemies: ...no one special. Except bossy adults. Yeah. Bossy adults are enemies.

Trivia: Matata’s name refers to two contexts: firstly, a Swahili phrase "Hakuna matata" ('no worries'), famous from The Lion King movie. It also refers to an actual Swahili name meaning 'troublemaker'. And !ippa... his name means actually nothing, I just wanted a short name with '!' sound

Having seen these guys before, I must add that the colouring looks really good. Good enough to make me scroll manically to the bottom of the description to see how it was done. Good job.

Thanks! That info is actually their character sheet made for the forum. Though !ippa is soon turning four and thus attends to the airbending classes... and Matata, not capable for airbending, is left alone. Poor boy D:
