You're the type of person that would probably bitch about fan art of characters wearing "modern" clothing, how about instead of bitching about what people have THEIR OCs wearing, let them dress their OCs how THEY want to

I understand that argument, but I want to be real here: the reason why proper clothing style is important to make the OC look more accurate to the universe they live in instead of looking tacky or unrealistic. In the case of Naruto, the style of that universe is close to historical Japan (probably early 20th century) so while an OC can still have a personal sense of fashion, the design elements must remain consistent with that of canon.

It doesn't have to remain consistent, my Naruto OC that I use for RPing has outfits from Mortal Kombat and other fandoms, because it's what I want for her, I don't NEED to stick to a certain style because someone else says I have to

No one is trying to tell you how to design your OC. By all means, design her the way you like. It's not a requirement for everyone but for the people who need advice on how to make their OC stand out from characters but still want to keep into that line of style. There's no need to be angry because no one is trying to offend you. If it's a crossover RPG, by all means do what pleases you. Though I do hope that whenever you're RP'ing you're not getting loud with someone over different opinions that ultimately don't matter.

My character has some decent clothing... but her chest piece MIGHT not be what I'm looking for.. Though Madara and Hashirama have armor that's tied with strong string to keep it together.. Or I think so? Haven't looked at the manga chapters in ages...
This is my OC.. I'm just afraid that she still looks mary sue when it comes to her appearance...

Neither have I read the manga since forever, but I recall that their armors apparently draw inspiration from ancient Japanese armors.
What comes to your OC... honestly, the thing that bothers me most in her appearance is her physique. O____O Her clothes make sorta sense to me, though she doesn't appear comfortable in them which is a minus. (I actually like that waist thing.)
I don't dare to google due to spoilers, but does even Tsunade have that huge chest? (I don't deny the effect of drawing style, Naruto characters aren't drawn entirely realistically as we all know.) In addition, is Tsunade otherwise that skinny? (Curvy people rarely have ripped stomaches even if they weren't overweighed. Or is she using a corset? Still, I'm not sure how often natural bust-to-waist ratios are that extreme...)
Shizuka also looks rather young to me, which makes her bust size even less reasonable.
But... think a bit. Her breasts are almost of the size of her HEAD. O______O

MadelynKitten In reply to NuttyNuti [2014-12-05 21:44:48 +0000 UTC]
Well it's not that she's uncomfortable wearing them.Β
And...
Tsunade does have a large chest. Yes. As well as she also has a womanly figure. To be honest, the outfit my OC wears DOES make it seem a bit difficult to see her true figure as well as I'm still shaky on anatomy due to drawing "ecchi" first and so used to big hips and tits. The chest size she has now is WAY more realistic than I would have drawn a year ago xDΒ
On a new note;
I can possibly draw her without her Kimono in a more simplified outfit for when she's not travelling at that time if you insist; though I'd probably have done that in time on my own. I mean, even though she travels a lot, she's still called back to Sunagakure Β and very active for the village. She's most often called back by written request sent in a letter from a carrier pigeon directly from the Kazekage/Gaara (her story begins in part II which is when she chooses to make her suggestion to Gaara).
I'm sure she'd take the time to go back home to her aunt, uncle, and cousins as well as take off her kimono and legging boots to relax. But it's actually more comfortable than it looks as well as it was the "last" thing her mother made her before she passed away from old age; it's worn as a momento. It's also made of silk and well ventilated for the desert air while still having enough body to keep her warm when the temperature drops at night; the leggings help keep her exposed legs warm as well. Because Deserts tend to naturally be very hot during the day and very cold at night, ya know. xDΒ
More detail into their reason for passing just to show I didn't have them die a tragic death like I've seen so overly done by many... xD
"Her parents had her rather "late" in their lifetime. They were in their very early 60s and her mother badly wanted a little girl and wished for her to be blessed with the Ametsuchi clan's abilities. They were able to conceive since her mother was still very healthy and just in case; to improve their chances, she used medicinal herbs and made it into tea to keep her healthy enough to bear a child and give birth if her wish was granted.
Also, the 60s aren't always so miserable for most old people like it "can" be xD. but of course. Of course, they had to get older as Shizuka also did.
Shizuka's father passed in the late winter 4 years before part II begins from old age, and her mother died the year she asked to travel from natural causes as well. Her death happened 3 weeks before Shizuka set out on her own and actually her true reasoning to want to get away from the village for a while."
Sorry to give a lecture on how that goes, and I will include all of this in her backstory now that it's typed up xD Anyway. The facial expression wasn't meant for her to be considered uncomfortable in her clothes, more along the lines of she was saddened by her mother's passing before wearing THIS specific outfit and traveling on her own around the many nations which is explained if you'll go to my gallery and read her information that's currently present.

Alright! And now when I glimpsed at her profile, her age gives more sense to her figure. I first thought she was a teen due to her face xD
Anyway, back to her build: If the series have also individuals built like her, and if you intentionally aim to imitate Kishimoto's style, then I don't think I should overly complain about her physique (again, I'm spoilerphobic so I don't dare to check). Otherwise, about drawing full-figured people... First off, full figure usually requires full shapes elsewhere than only in bust and butt. I can't recall any real life person with a natural ample bust and without a layer of fat elsewhere. For example, both of my brothers' girlfriends are curvy, but they are also, how to say, soft kinda everywhere, while they definitely don't look fat.
Thankfully Shizuka appears to have at least heavy enough thighs, but her face seems a bit too narrow for a person whose body-fat ratio would enable assets like that (at least in the newest picture which is otherwise better than the former one). An entirely different thing is if she has an operated chest; those defy laws of biology(/physics?).
It would be insightful to see, for example, a swimsuit picture of her, but I don't demand you to draw one just for letting me to see it xD Indeed, those clothes may make me see her physique differently than you may have doodled it.

Thank you for your input and it at the least tells me I have the right idea in mind.
As well as there are actually a few Naruto characters with an ample bust and they are older women as well as genetics can also lead to skinny girls with large breasts. The characters are Tsunade, and that lady who teaches Kazui(probably spelled that wrong) and Darui.
I'm also going to add that she often has back problems if she's been constantly on her feet which will also become a weakness for her in battle and slow her down. This is also lessened enough because of the chest piece i put on her to better attempt to "prop up" that extra weight and better balance her body out so she doesn't get the back pains as often/quickly as she would without a chest piece.
I hope all of that makes sense xD I'm so tired I'm not sure anymore.
also here is a redesign and it should actually haver her chest size to a more natural appearance rather than big ass balloons protruding from her chest. xD
Big boobs were ALWAYS my forte because I actually dabble in ecchi style art. So chests and asses are difficult to put back into par when that's what I do a lot. Ya know?
anywho I hope this better adjusts thingsΒ

Yeah, that picture was the one I referred earlier as the "newest picture" :'D
Well, props kinda everyone have their drawing biases. For example, I tend to make my female characters of slender and small-chested side, probably because I'm also slender and small-chested (what varies most is that how fit these characters are: some are book geeks who don't do much exercise, some are athletes). Though I've given me an aim to get more variation with my later characters.
Anyway! I'm not sure if you altered her chest piece in the latter picture, but in the first picture there is one thing you may want to pay attention to: a well supportive bra. Even I (with my ah-so enormous A cup) prefer to have a bra of sorts when exercising, and that need would be even more dire if I had even more mass on my chest area. (Also, this site is insightful:Β bustygirlcomics.com/ ) Though I don't know what kind of build you have and whether or not you have better insight to this lady problem xD
If you some day get a feeling you want to adjust your drawing style away from what you did earlier, I warmly suggest drawing real life women and/or photographs of those. c:
(I actually start to wonder if we should challenge each other to draw female body types uncharacteristic to what we usually do, or you drawing an uncurvy female and I drawing a curvy one xDDDD Well, I tried once: nuttynuti.deviantart.com/art/H⦠) Your mileage may vary :'D

by the way, this may sound like a HUGE excuse, but everytime i draw they end up this way so it's safely assumed to be MY style of Kishimoto's style and not spot on accurate to the anime or the manga. So I doubt I could actually draw naruto style if I tried without taking months to break my style habits, and I like my style. If she were in Naruto style the proportions would be more along the lines or Kurenai with a larger chest maybe? and I have no clue if you know who Fuka is yet or not xD
π: 0 β©: 1
NuttyNuti In reply to MadelynKitten [2014-12-09 19:06:52 +0000 UTC]
It's hard to say how much the bust size issues are solely about your style and how much it's curve preference, as Shizuka drawings apparently draw influence from the official Kishimoto style and therefore it makes it harder to say where his style ends and yours starts :'D
Fuuka is a filler character, so spoilers about her don't bother me. *minds about the manga plot more... and now dares to google a bit* Yeah, she and Kurenai appear good starting points: to my eye, their bust appear large-ish, but adding slightly (ONLY SLIGHTLY) more wouldn't harm, either (in that world).
Just... don't go past (Manga!)Tsunade's sizes, unless you draw a character whose bust is operated or who is clearly overweight. And it would look better to me to avoid making breasts sized their owner's head.

FU-SION-HA!
*BOOOM!*
Ahem.Β What comes to bad art and such, I think that what ultimately rules is how the person takes the feedback. No matter the quality, if the person throws a raging tantrum when someone suggests something to improve, or if the artist starts to belittle their (reasonable) critic, that tells something about their spirit. It doesn't matter if the artist agrees or not, getting and taking critique is about co-operation to make improvements, not about contesting.
So thanks for being mature here
And to the parent post of this post:
It's still hard to say where Kishimotoism ends and your style starts, because all female characters in your gallery appear to be OCs, so it makes it hard to see if the OCs actually have unreasonable proportions or if it's your style. What could help me seeing that is seeing you translating canon female characters to your style; then the canon character can be compared to the original art, and then it could indicate a bit what your character might look like in the actual Kishimoto style.
For example: We know that in Kishimotoverse, Sakura is quite flat-chested for a girl of her age, Kurenai's chest is larger but it's not that out of ordinary for a woman of her age, and Tsunade has that large assets that they gather fame. They probably would look somewhat different if they were real-life people (just look at their huge eyes), but their sizes would still correlate somewhat with how they are related to other bust sizes in the series. So if you draw for example Sakura, Kurenai and Tsunade in their own style, their bust sizes indicate how bust sizes translate to your style. (To my eyes you do draw the male canon characters quite faithfully to their series at least.) Naruto may be a lesser extreme example since builds tend to be somewhat reasonable (translating One Piece characters would be way more interesting xDDD).
(And now when I have seen your older art, I can say you have improved in your grasp of anatomy!)
EDIT: Side question: As a curvy person enthusiast, what do you think about my attempts to grasp curves? (Those featured characters were actually my friends' ALoK RP characters, and I tried to translate them to my style. The first character is described being heavily curved, while the other one is more like, "Curvy, and you can't say 100% if to call her chubby or not".)
EDIT EDIT: Another (older) one recalled: i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt⦠No, not the flirty one xD He is my character, desperately seeking a girlfriend and constantly failing in that. Why, he has such a charming smile!

I won't promise to draw my part in the near future due to being busy with my thesis. Though there are an occasional curvy person in my drawings. Amazing! Exactly why I dislike OC stories. I know not all are bad, but still...
A lot of what I read include big chests wrapped in bandages that come off when a love interest comes near, mini skirts, ass long hair that never gets stuck on branches and never tangled, 10 kekkei genkais, and the descendant of all the major clans. OC then suddenly has to choose between two hot guys who are in love with her and she chooses the one guy who is more insecure.
Before writing an OC, (if I ever write one) I always plan out her history, family, flaws and fighting style etc. so I know how to portray her.
Anyway, poor Lee. Instead of traumatizing people, he's the one being traumatized. Neji, Neji, Neji. Don't worry. She's not a hallucination. She is Maarii Suu, you're worst nightmare. Tenten, I'll pay you to beat her up. Gai, Good Luck
