The city lights + expression of the girl give a very melancholic tone. Love it.
[I don't know why (I'm not american, and I've never even been in the US), but whenever I think of complete and utter loneliness, the first image that comes to my mind is that of someone in a cheap motel in LA, looking through the window and watching the city night lights. The reason why I mention this is because the scenario I imagine greatly resembles the right image.]
