Description
A bright light filtered through the windows of Wynsiph’s library. A busy Quill rushed about placing books back in their proper places. Many a gro were inside the walls, with each one attentively reading their selected material. For many, today was another day, perhaps a day of rest, spent in the quiet and calm atmosphere of this palace of knowledge.
One gro, in particular however, was in a frantic search for knowledge. A mountain of books had been pulled from the shelves and was gathered in a dark corner with just enough light to read the words off the pages. Sweat dripped off his brow as his eyes darted across the pages. Only one particular topic was of importance today: Eggs and how to take care of them. For every book that was pulled down, pages upon pages of notes were written. Dark bags were present under the green gro’s eyes as he mustered as much energy as he could to continue his research. Besides this solitary gro, a brown backpack laid on the ground. Inside, his precious cargo rested: a maroon egg. It hadn’t been long ago that he had discovered it in the woods surrounding Wynsiph, with no clue as to how it got there.
A sigh escaped the gros mouth as he closed the book he was working on, titled: “How to Raise Your Child.” Stacking it along with the other books that had been divulged of information, he looked over at the piles of notes that had been written during his long studies. Bringing his hands up to his face, Buck rubbed his tired eyes and brought his claws through his drooping hair. Checking the clock on the wall, he gauged that he had been here… 8 hours?! He spent the night in the library and he didn’t even realize it! A small groan left his mouth as his eyes closed. Sluggishly, Buck gathered his notes, tucked them away in his pack, and put the bag on his back with the intention of finally heading back to the Nook.
Standing up slowly, he looked around the corners. Nobody he knew seemed to be nearby. Nobody to question him on what he was doing reading books about eggs. He moved slowly around the library, his tail dragging on the floor. Peeking around bookshelves, he ensured that he wouldn’t be seen. The door wasn’t far, now. He was almost in the clear! Peeking around the final bookshelf, he noticed that there was a purple gro that had their back turned to him. But… wait? Didn’t they look familiar?
“… Flick.” Buck mumbled to himself. It was Nova! She looked to be studying something from one of the books, but it seemed like her attention was drawn away from him. Turning back around, he took a breath and turned to leave. But it seemed like Chii had other plans for him.
“Sup, Buck.” Nova slyly said, as a smile came across her face and her eyes squinted in suspicion.
The sight of his friend made the green gro jump as she caught him by surprise. “Nova! H-how..? I… I mean, what’s… up?”
“Oh, you know, not too much. Decided to come in to do some research on Wind Magic.” She said with a shrug. “Better question though, what are you doing trying to be all sneaky?”
“S-sneaky? Me? Nooo… not at all!” Buck responded nervously. “I was just uh…” sweat dripped from his brow, “looking for some books on-“ quickly, he pulled a book off the shelf next to him, “Nova Trees! Did you know that they can live to be really old? How cool is that! And weren’t you named after Nova Trees? Maybe you’ll live really old… too?” A small grin and a nervous expression made their way to Buck’s face as a nervous chuckle escaped his lips. His mind was racing “Oh flick oh flick oh flick oh flick oh flick…”
Nova’s eyes narrowed even more as she crossed her arms across her chest, “uh huuuuuh. Suuuuuure. Are you okay, Buck? You seem a bit… off right now.” Scanning his face, she noticed the small flecks of sweat along with the dark lines under his eyes. Did he even get any sleep last night?
“Oh, yeah, I’m perfectly fine!” his left eye twitched just slightly, “I’m just peachy!” Turning away from his friend, he started to make his way towards the exit of the library. “I’ll see you later, Nova! Tell Kairell hi for me!” And off he went, an audible gasp escaping his lips.
Nova just shook her head at Buck, and smiled. He was a good friend, but she couldn’t help but feel that something was up. She was about to turn her head away, when something caught her eye: a small reflection of light coming from Buck’s backpack. It was maroon, and looked to be a round object. Nova’s eyes squinted to try and get a better look before he disappeared around the corner. “No…” she whispered. “It couldn’t be…” Her body turned to try and find where Buck could have come from. Looking around the library, she searched for what could have been troubling him. Soon, she came across the dark corner and the table Buck occupied not long ago. Reaching down to pick up one of the many books, she glanced at the title. Her eyes widened as she scanned the other books. All the same topics! “Well shit, Buck… What are you hiding?”

This one was okay to do. I really need to work on my backgrounds and not get impatient with them. I think once I can get over that hill, I should be able to improve more!
