Stocking costume made and worn by me. It's hardly fancy but I love how my sword looks here!Photo by Eurobeat King at Anime Expo 2011.

How did you make the sword, if you don't mind me asking?

The sword kind of cracked, so I wouldn't recommend this method unless you filled it with expanding foam or use an insulation foam base instead.
Basically, I had PVC pipe going through the middle that formed the handle. The hilt is a piece of foam presentation board. The blade was formed by shaping regular posterboard over the pipe. Then, I applied fiberglass cloth and resin over the blade to harden it. Finally, sanding and painting.
