Soon after my heart rat, Scarlett, died in 2009 I had the idea of getting rat footprints tattooed on top of my shoulder where she used to sit and go everywhere with me. Although it was inspired by her and was meant to be a "in memory of" type tattoo, it also is for every rat I have ever loved and cared for.I couldn't seem to get clean footprints from my current rats though to do the tattoo up until I recently bought a really chill and super sweet rat, Busia. Thanks to her I was able to get pretty decent enough prints! I tweaked the prints a little myself...copied, flipped, spaced, and added a tail.
I thought I was going to get this when I turned 18, but I couldn't get the footprints until recently and it turned out I bought it as a gift for myself for a late 19th Birthday (Dec 3rd)/ Christmas present.

Would... Would you mind if I took this idea to get it done? I have 2 fur babies, one always rides on my shoulder. I have to re- home them though and it's breaking my heart. I wanted to get a small tattoo but was struggling with what I could do, but this is perfect.

I have had pet rats for over 30 years (almost my entire life) and this is just the most beautiful and creative tribute I have ever seen. ^_^

I just had to put my pet rat Druid to sleep today. =/ I have been looking around to get ideas about what kind of memorial tat I wanted to get for her. It's the first rat I ever had. She had a mammary tumor so I couldn't get clear foot prints because she'd walk and her tumor would run through the ink and smudge it. =/ it's a rough day for me today, but know that I understand. I have a group called petmemorials I started today, if you wanna post pics of your babies that have passed there!

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's terrible such a loving creature has such a short life...my first rat Scarlett the one who initially inspired my tattoo had a mammary tumor but she developed it late in her old age I'm fairly certain she passed on from being old. If I had taken her to the vet to have the tumor removed her chances of surviving after that or in the process was slim anyhow. :/
Something as special as a heart rat stays with you forever, it's been years and I still miss my Scarlett dearly. Best of wishes and may you love many more rats

aw thank you love. Yeah, Druid was a sweet girl, and I miss her more and more.Β
I finally went out and got two more babies, because the one I had with Druid [ her name is Lilith] was so depressed. She's doing so much better now that I got the new ones [ respectively named Freya and Valentina].
I hate that they have such short lifespans, creatures that are just so full of life shouldn't be limited to 2-3 years.Β

I love this. I had the same idea just without the tail and I told a friend on Instagram and she showed me this. I really like it and I like it with the tail so I'm going to get something similar. I don't mean to steal it though so I always show your picture to give full credibility. However I am adding angel wings. I really love this.

This is so nice! I've been thinking of getting something similar myself, but last time I tried, my rats wasn't very co-operative XD

Go for it! That's what it took for me to get semi-decent prints, sweet and patient Busia. Although she did start squirming and walking in the wrong places after 10 min. xD

What did you use for the ink/dye to get the print?
It's so crazy, I've been wanting to get pretty much the exact same thing done (minus the tail) and so I was searching via google for images of rat foot prints and your image came up.

Yep I just took a wet piece of tissue and rubbed off the leftover watercolor as best as I could before they get a chance to sit and start licking it off. -_-" lol and comes off everywhere else they manage to get it.
