Oh, I like pink panties. But too basic, not a ribbon or something other cute?

The original paintings I was parodying tended to have fairly basic undergarments, maybe with a little lace or ruffle on the elastic. The original intent was to put Rarity in one of those fifties style dresses, but really, the more detail I tried to add, the harder the drawing got to read. So I dropped the dress altogether, and tried to keep the details from drowning out the basic weirdness of the tableau.

Obviously the celery represents the fragile nature of the pony mind and body, only being able to be uplifted by their own hooves and pursuits, and the underwear represents social oppression and how no matter how uncomfortable we are with the prospect, we must bring it down in order to reach reform and live as a united people.

I had no idea Art Frahm was so deep. Thank you for this insightful comment.

Or she was a size over and was planning an exquisite dinner. You're welcome.

Art Frahm was a pin-up artist from the 40's and 50's. His "signature" was paintings of women whose underpants fell to the ground in the presence of celery. (It's as goofy as it sounds.)

This is a homage of sorts.

Applejack: twenty stalks? Carrot or celery?
Spike: definitely celery

I'm a sucker for Sundblom, Rockwell, Ballantyne, and that whole era of illustrators. Frahm was a capable student of Sundblom's who just happened to get cleverly skewered by a guy on the internet over one of his quirkier sets of commissions. But the celery coincidence is pretty funny.

I think that's why I left her dress off in the final version. For one, the dress was cluttered and ugly, but secondly, it made it go from "cutely stupid" to "vaguely dirty".
