Chapter One: The Trap is Set
If you looked in the dictionary and looked up the word bitch, you would find a picture of Hazel Montgomery.
Hazel was everything wrong with the world. The daughter of a rich businessman, everything had been handed to Hazel on a silver plate.Of course, being raised this way would only make her spoiled. To make matters worse, she was rude, conceited and thought she was the best thing since sliced bread. Being this way made it easy to dislike her. Over the years, Hazel had made many enemies. Unlucky for her, one of those enemies held a grudge.
It started on a normal Tuesday afternoon. Hazel was talking to her father on the phone, window shopping along Main Street.
“Daddy, I need that new Gucci purse! Brittany has one! It’s not fair if she has one and I don’t,” Hazel whined. “Please? Just one? I promise I’ll use it! Oh thank you Daddy! I love you, bye bye!”
As she hung up, Hazel entered the cafe before her. Brittany had told her about this new place. There food was to die for. If it was good enough for Brittany, it was certainly good enough for Hazel. As she entered, she took in the scents around her. Well, the food smelled good. The place didn’t look bad either. It was a warm place with yellow walls and adorable pink tables. Each table had a small vase with a daisy in it. How cute. That was a good starting point. Hazel walked forward, taking a look at the menu. Now if she could just find something low cal.
“Hazel? Oh my god, Hazel is that you?”
Hazel glanced over to see who was talking to her. At first, she couldn’t place the person. It was a girl with brown skin and long black hair. She had big blue eyes along with a bright smile. For a second, Hazel was sure she had no idea who this person was but then it clicked. Tempest Gunderson from high school. Hazel couldn’t believe it. The nerdy, chubby girl who sat behind her in English class was all grown up and skinny.
“Tempest?” Hazel put on a fake smile. “Oh my god, it’s been a while!”
“I can’t believe you’re here! I hope you like my little cafe.”
“Wait, this is your cafe?”
“Yep! Since I’m the owner, I’ll give you a special discount. You’ll get 50%!”
Hazel was silent for a second. Tempest was not her friend. In fact, Hazel remembered torturing Tempest a lot during high school. It had been too easy. Tempest had been quiet, awkward and of course, fat. Hazel used to call her Tubby Tempest. It wasn’t until senior year that Tempest had decided she was done with being Hazel’s punching bag because she had punched Hazel square in the face. Hazel’s father had demanded Tempest be expelled but the principal decided against it since Tempest was a straight A student. Tempest had to apologize but she refused and instead, threatened Hazel.
“One of these days Hazel, you are going to pay. I’m going to make your life a living nightmare.”
So Hazel was shocked that Tempest was being nice. High school had been a long time ago so maybe Tempest had forgotten about her revenge.
“Thanks Tempest,” Hazel looked back at the menu. “Hm, what will I get?”
As she thought about this, Hazel saw a picture for bacon alfredo pasta. Now, Hazel hated carbs so pasta was a dish she would never eat. But once her eyes saw the picture, something happened. Her stomach growled. Hazel held her stomach, her mouth watering suddenly. Inside her mind, a voice was urging her to get the pasta.
Get a nice, big plate of that unhealthy pasta and eat the whole thing. Don’t stop until you’ve finished it.
“That---pasta looks good,” Hazel said. “I think I’ll get a large plate of that.”
“Okay! Coming right up!” Tempest said as she went to the kitchen.
Hazel sat down at a table, wondering why she had ordered such an unhealthy dish. She never ate pasta. The last time she ate pasta, she was a child. Hell, she wouldn’t even touch mac and cheese! Hazel thought about cancelling the order but every time she considered it, something stopped her. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t bring herself to get up and leave. It was worse once the food was brought to her.
The plate was huge and the pasta looked even better in real life. Hazel gazed at it, taking in the creamy alfredo sauce and bacon bits. She had been given two large garlic sticks as well and she had gotten herself a glass of Sprite. Hazel picked up her fork and knife, unable to look away. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. She twirled some pasta onto her fork and took a bite. Once it was in her mouth, Hazel was lost. Never in her life had she tasted something so utterly amazing! The pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce was perfectly seasoned. She chewed slowly, wanting to savor the food. Once she swallowed, she licked her lips. Hazel looked back at the plate, her stomach growling.
Eat.
It was one word but it kept repeating in her mind.
Eat, eat, eat.
Hazel couldn’t disobey. She started to stuff pasta into her mouth, trying to enjoy every bite. This wasn’t normal food. No, Tempest had to be some type of magician. Hazel had eaten all over the world and she would give all those resturants up just for Tempest’s little cafe. Hazel wouldn’t mind eating here every day. Maybe she had been wrong about carbs all these years. Perhaps she should give them another chance.
She drank her soda, ate the bread and soon, the pasta was gone. When Hazel realized this, she was upset. Against all odds, she was still extremely hungry.
“Wow Hazel, you sure were hungry,” Tempest commented as she took the plate. “Hopefully, you save room for dessert.”
Dessert.
Images of sweet, decadent food popped into Hazel’s mind and her mouth started watering. She nodded her head, wondering what wonderful delights Tempest had to offer. Tempest just smiled.
“What kind of dessert would you like today?”
“All of them.” Hazel answered.
“Wow, you sure are hungry tonight! No problem, I’ll whip those up for you.”
When Tempest left, Hazel was left to think. Something was off. This wasn’t her. Hazel wasn’t a person who gorged herself. She felt like she should leave and go to the gym but something was keeping her in the seat. Her huge meal hadn’t satisfied her. For some reason, she was still hungry. Her mouth was dying to chew something. Thankfully, Tempest was quick with the food.
“Alright, here we are. We have a vanilla strawberry pie, lemon-lime cheesecake and a double chocolate double berry chocolate mousse.”
The desserts were gorgeous. It was like art you could eat. Tempest placed the plates before Hazel. Hazel inhaled, taking in the sweet scent of vanilla. She licked off some of the icing off the cheesecake and her tongue was greeted with a tart sweetness. For the mousse, she removed the sprig of mint and started spooning the chocolately goodness into her mouth. Hazel moaned softly; the mousse was perfection. Berries and chocolate mixed together formed the perfect dessert! In a few spoonfuls, it was gone. Desperate to savor the taste, Hazel licked the spoon clean.
When she moved onto the cheesecake, Hazel finished it off in three big bites. It was so good! It was tart yet sweet with sticky icing. She chewed slowly, trying to keep the flavors in her mouth. When she swallowed, she patted her stomach. Two desserts down, one to go. Hazel looked over the pie. She didn’t even bother with a fork this time. She picked up the slice and stuffed it into her mouth. The pie was bursting with flavor, making Hazel moan again.
“So good,” Hazel licked her fingers. “But I guess, I better go to the gym to work this off. I’ve never eaten this much before.”
“Glad you enjoyed your meal,” Tempest came by with the check. “Maybe we’ll see you for dinner?”
Dinner.
Hazel imagined the glorious meal Tempest could make for dinner. Her mind was filled with the ideas of steak, pork chops, salmon and more. She licked her lips before biting her lip slightly.
“Okay.”
Hazel was distracted throughout her workout. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t focus. After running on the treadmill for five minutes, she stopped and headed to the shower. Ever since she had gone to the cafe, her mind had been focusing on food. All she wanted to do was go back to the cafe and eat. It took all of her will power not to just run out of the gym and go back to Tempest’s restaurant. No, Hazel didn’t want to appear weird. She would wait until dinner. Since she couldn’t focus on working out, Hazel decided to grab a snack. That would possibly tide her over until dinner. Glancing at her watch, Hazel saw it was only 3pm. Two more hours until 5pm and then she’d go get some dinner. As she went to shower, Hazel thought of what she could snack on.
“Maybe I could get a smoothie,” She said to herself. “Or---maybe a cookie? Or ice-cream? Ah, no! I already had sugar today. But---maybe one cookie wouldn’t hurt.”
Once she was done with her shower and she had dressed, Hazel headed down the street. As she walked around, she came across a bakery. Once she smelled the pastries, she altered her course and went inside. Hazel marched up to the cashier and placed her order.
“Five chocolate chip cookies, two vanilla cupcakes, three eclairs, six doughnuts and the biggest pie you have.”
The person at the counter didn’t question Hazel’s order and she was thankful for that. Why was she doing this? Hazel was so good at maintaining her weight! All of this sugar was going to ruin her figure. There was a chance she could bounce back from this. If she stopped being such a pig after today, she could just drink smoothies for the rest of the week and increase her workout regiment. Yeah, that could work.
Once her treats were ready, Hazel hurried to her car. She had never felt strange about eating in public until now. Inside her car, Hazel stuffed her face. It was the messiest meal she had ever had. Crumbs went everywhere, her face got dirty with icing and she stained her shirt. This didn’t matter to Hazel. All that mattered was that her belly was full. Hazel ate every single sweet until she was left with nothing but an empty box.
“So good,” She licked her lips. “What time is it now? Only 3:45pm!? Oh god, what do I do now?”
Hazel whimpered and bit down on her finger. How was she going to last until 5pm? Maybe she could go early but she didn’t want to freak Tempest out. Hazel reached into pocket and took out her phone. She went to YouTube and searched until she found some baking videos. She clicked on the first one she saw. It was a girl baking a triple decker cake. Hazel watched, her mouth watering the whole time. It wasn’t ideal but it would distract her until dinner. Thankfully, it did distract her until it was 5pm. Quickly as she could, she started up her car and headed towards the cafe.
When she got to the restaurant, Hazel felt ravenous. Those pastries she had eaten seemed so long ago. Hazel went straight to the cash register.
“Hi Hazel!” Tempest waved. “What do you want tonight?”
Hazel wanted to answer everything but she fought back. She looked at the menu.
“The grilled lamb with a spicy white sauce,” Hazel said. “And the cheesy mashed potatoes. I also want the 12oz steak with a tangy spinach sauce.”
“Coming right up!” Tempest said with a smile.
Hazel sat down with her drink and waited. The cafe honestly smelled like paradise! All the scents were driving her crazy and Hazel didn’t understand why. Was she sick? How come she was thinking about food so much? This was not normal for her. Maybe it would be best if she just left. As she wrestled with her thoughts, Tempest had finished Hazel’s order. As soon as she saw the food, Hazel’s mind went back to obsessive thoughts of food. She wasted no time in stuffing her face. The food was so delicious!
“I need more!” Hazel turned to Tempest. “Please, I need more! Give me anything and everything you have.”
“Are you sure?” Tempest asked. “I mean we have a lot of food. We have sub sandwiches, fried chicken, burgers--”
“Yes, more!” Hazel licked her lips. “More, more, more!”
“Alright! You sit tight while I get you some more food.” Tempest headed back towards the kitchen.
Hazel returned to her food. No matter how hard she tried, all she could do was think about eating. It was like she couldn’t satisfy herself. All logical thinking was gone and all that was left was the thought of food. It was like it had become the most important thing in the world to her. Even when she had finished her food, she licked the plates clean. If she wasted one bit of food, she’d never forgive herself.
“Wow, you are hungry! Good thing we have a lot of food here.”
Hazel wasn’t sure how but Tempest had made more food. Large sandwiches dripping with mayo, huge bowls of hot soup, a massive plate of fried onion rings and more. Hazel wasn’t sure how Tempest had cooked it all in such short notice but she didn’t care. All she wanted to do was eat.
And for hours, that is what she did.
Hazel ate every single piece of food Tempest had brought. She devoured everything, barely stopping to breathe. As she consumed, she became fatter. Her stomach which had never been noticeable was huge. It looked as if she was pregnant. It only got bigger as she continued. Hazel was so lost in the wonders of food that she hadn’t noticed how large she was becoming. Even as her stomach got heavier and bigger, she just kept eating. She licked the plates clean, trying not to waste any bit of food.
“So good,” Hazel licked the sauce off her fingers. “So---wait---it’s all gone? No! No, I can’t be out of food! There has to be more!”
“Goodness, you’re still hungry?” Tempest asked.
“Tempest,” Hazel looked at the other woman. “Please, I need to eat! I’m so hungry! Please, tell me you have more food!”
“Well, I do have some cupcakes at home,” Tempest admitted. “If you want, I could take you over to my place and you could have some.”
“Yes!” Hazel jumped up, knocking the table over with her belly. “Oh Tempest, thank you so much!”
“No Hazel,” Tempest grinned. “Thank you.”
