Title: The Power of Words [W.D. Gaster x Reader]/Gaster [Prologue]
Prologue: currently reading.
Summary: Being a high school English teacher was fun for the most part, but your life is rather boring by itself. Luckily, a group of monsters are coming in to spice things up soon enough. [Might change title.]
Getting a job as an Eleventh Grade English teacher at your old high school was a dream come true, ever since writing had become a passion of yours years ago when you were still in middle school. How and why that translated into wanting a career as a teacher never really pieced itself together.
Regardless, you enjoyed your job. Well, as much as a high school teacher could. It was good most days is all you can truthfully say.
There are just some parts that were missing from your... well, you would say mediocre life. You had never been in a committed relationship. As much as you knew it didn't matter in reality, it still bothered you. Mostly because you had this uncanny ability to push people away without even trying. Maybe it was the contribution of your incredible lack of social skills all throughout your life.
At first, it didn't bother you... until high school. All of your only friends went to different schools, so you were left all on your own. Occasionally, you saw that one friend but she had others to hang out with too, so it wasn't often.
It was something you should've saw coming. Your mom only had one friend that still lived in town and was also her colleague. You were envious of that. At least she had someone.
Oh well, never mind all that. Where did you put the damn stapler? I swear it was right here… you thought to yourself, tracing the empty spot where the black piece of equipment should have been.
Pursing your lips in thought, you tried to recall what you did with it. Did another teacher ask for it? None that you can remember. A student? No, they never move it. If they did, you would have seen it happen.
Letting out an elongated breath, you ran a hand through your hair, contemplating if you should interrupt Knapp's class for a measly stapler.
Change of Point of View
He couldn't do this. Why was he doing this? It was just too much. For goodness sake, why the hell did he say yes to this?
Multiple thoughts of doubt ran through Gaster's mind all at once, putting him more on edge with each one. How would they react to me? was the first thought that invaded his initially peaceful state. Will they hate me? Will they even care?
As he dwelled on the invasive speculations, the Chemistry teacher scurried around the room, going in and out of the supply closet to prep for her class. She seemed to be quite comfortable with the lanky skeleton standing at the front of the room, but she was an adult. There's no telling what a teenager who had never seen a monster before would think. It didn't help he was informed that the class he was speaking for was a rather rambunctious bunch.
Oh, god no, here comes one.
Gaster looked at his hands that fiddled together nervously as the teenager walked by him and to her desk without so much as a word.
Oh.
Okay.
That was relatively simplistic, but it didn't ease his concerns in the slightest.
---
Okay, it wasn't bad, per se, but the bombardment of questions and eager blabbering was beginning to give him a migraine. (Can skeletons even get migraines?) Thank god he was only here for that one block and not any of the others.
As he was explaining his experiences in his field of work to the enthusiastic students, he heard the sound of a door opening and an informally dressed woman walk into the room. She leaned against the wooden door to keep it from slamming shut before moving to the back of the classroom where Ms. Knapp was setting up a lab.
She appeared not to have noticed him, and the teenagers didn't seem to acknowledge her presence (as most were staring up at him in awe). He hesitantly drew his attention away from her and continued his presentation, desperately trying to ignore the two woman as they came to the front of the room.
"Hey, Ms. [Last Name]!" One sophomore, Aleesia, shouted, making Gaster flinch slightly in surprise.
The person in question looked around for the source of their name as Knapp placed a dull black stapler in her hand. [Last Name], as Gaster now knew, smiled and nodded at Aleesia in acknowledgment. Looking back to the blonde teacher, she exchanged a few more words with her before quietly leaving the room.
Gaster stared at the door she walked out of for a few seconds, shaking his head and returning to his current assignment. But something about her piqued his interest. He could only guess she was another teacher, yet she didn't dress the part.
For some reason, it made him want to see her again.
---
Leaving the room, you softly closed the door behind you, letting out a sigh of relief as you did so. You were hoping to be in and out without any problems, but Aleesia clearly wanted to ruin your plans of that. It didn't help that Ms. Knapp's guest speaker was kind of cute.
Evidently, the monster bit didn't bother you. At least, not visibly. You've met only a few monsters here and there, but it was few and far between. They were much nicer than most humans, so you were grateful for that at least.
But something about that monster especially caught your eye. Maybe it was the anatomy of him, but you couldn't quite say it was that.
Not like matters now. You won't see him again after today, you assured yourself.
Now off you go to staple a bunch of papers together. What fun.
