Description Happy Hiking
As with weather the world over, the elements around the Drakensbergs can be very changeable; hiking in the region can be a pleasure on balmy, calm days, or a challenge of endurance on a grizzly grim day.
Our first day's hiking around Montusi Mountain Lodge in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa was undertaken in the most beautiful of winter days: sunny, blue sky, warm, slight breeze, beautiful long views, and just enough of the ups and downs to make a late lunch-time beer a welcome reward. We walked around the Wanhoop Loop, about 3 hours stroll, a couple of views being shown below. The long views so much need for the weary town eyes we had developed are clear to see. The whole area is criss-crossed with paths, mountain bike tracks, and lazy little streams and rivers providing idyllic picnic spots, and even swimming pools in the summer season. All these images are worth using the zoom in facility if you can.

Sometimes you need a bit of perspective in a shot, so you make do with what is to hand! Yes, Anne, Jennifer and Martin.

Many thanks, Coco.

the mountains in the background are somehow identical to the area where I grew up.  Even the dry grass and those dry mountains, remind me of the area that made me; a boy who would grow to be a man so tough and strong!!!!!!!

The view is typical for the region, Henry, as you would know. I find the area, and indeed the whole region of the Drakensbergs, really fascinating and astoundingly beautiful. As you say, though, to grow up there you do have to be tough and resilient.

Many thanks

David

Beautiful, indeed!  one does not choose where to grow up at times - if not always.  How can one choose where to grow up when, in the first place one did not choose to be born and where?  Just that. one is always born through good parents!

Tricky situation!

Cheers!
