Daoine (Shroud Elves)

During the time of the Autumn War, the daoine were living among the skirmishing humans and halflings in distant Samarkand past the Dar Fiuhm desert in the west of Olgantha. Being born master crafters and traders, the daoine quickly ingratiated themselves into both of the battling camps and brokered peace between the two, but being careful to convince them that they were the ones deciding on a peaceful co-existence, largely through the development of the meander language which took elements of both races' many different dialects and melded it into one. Over time the daoine expanded their territory beyond the Dar Fiuhm into eastern Olgantha and expanded their trade routes throughout the continent, securing deals with all common races and regions, and even beyond. In fact, the founder of the Rosalina Verci Import trade group is a daoine herself. Beyond this, the daoine make it an effort not to make themselves innocuous and wear the dress of wherever they are visiting, but favor the modest cotton robes, sandals, head coverings and gossamer fabrics of their harsh desert homeland. One article of clothing common to the daoine city Bharata, the sari, has become quite popular in major cities of eastern Olgantha. Daoine's rich, dark blue, purple, indigo complexion (and variations thereof) and blazing eyes (always in the warmer spectrum of reds, orange and yellows) with black sclera tend to draw a bit of a crowd when they visit a small town or city, which any business-minded daoine can certainly appreciate.

· Prohibited skill: Larceny Trained skills: 3 skills + Barter or Speech

As a race who have built up a reputation for being good and trustworthy in the ways of business, they take subversions of this trust very seriously. Any daoine caught being a thief, forging documents or any other such unlawful behavior is severely punished, among the punishments being severing all ties to the individual and ruining their reputation along trade lines or merely removing their tongue. One must wonder which is truly the greater punishment.
