“So has it sunk in yet?” B murmured from his spot in the corner.

Light’s gaze shifted to him but not much else. B’s voice was too strange inside these padded walls, it wasn’t distant, wasn’t removed, external and existing in the peripheral environment—it was right there, right up close, always just against Light’s ear even when B himself was far away.

“And I don’t just mean this,” B continued, flipping a finger nonchalantly around. “Rubber rooms and straight jackets and big, burly men in white feeding you and cleaning you and raping your veins with needles—holding your dick for you when you have to take a piss—that’s all ignominious enough; but it’s really neither here nor there. At least they hold yours—they wouldn’t touch mine with a ten foot pole. I had to piss myself and then they’d hose me down from afar~”

Light shut his eyes. Neither here nor there was not quite the way he was viewing it. He’d been in a situation similar to this before… and yet, it wasn’t similar. Not at all. Playing games with L, having himself incarcerated to prove his innocence as Kira, sitting there for 50 days bound hand and foot—that was a chess move. That was foreplay. That was when an excuse to piss turned into a kinky sexual romp when L came down to do him the service… The present made him feel like he was rotting. Rotting alive; the internal cavity of his being decrepit and desiccating with every breath…

“I mean Lawli, Kira-kun,” B said. And the fact that he was talking, goading, seeking the proper button meant he’d had his fill of boredom. And Light could try to shut him out—but it was really impossible when he was always right there.

“Has it sunk in that he’s abandoned you? That you’re on the proper shelf now, just another trophy? That he’s bored and tired of your antics—you’ve worn out your welcome and he’s washing his hands like a veritable Lady MacBeth? Out out, damn spot—out.”

“Fuck you,” Light replied.
