simply beautiful...the light and the flowers are both soft and elegant.

I dig though.

Well, that's what happens when my fiance cuts flowers

I have told him several times to cut them with a sharper knife and at a diagonal but he doesn't listen

omg! I document almost everything. I have some of the strangest shots in my archives. At heart I am a historian, a recorder for future generations. It's already paying off since I'm now old enough to have photos from the 60s! My favorite photos are those of people and places and things that have changed as they always do... the ephemeral if you will.

Exactly!

I think that is one of the driving forces of my photographs. Documentation for my children. I love history and antiques and nostalgic sort of things. Memories can be so powerful.

Have you seen the man that died that had like 6000 polaroids or something in his collection, one for everyday from 1979 through 1997? One photo a day? I think that is the neatest Idea ever. D: my collection would be much larger though, I probably have somewhere between 80 and several hundred photos everyday. Some good, some horrible, some just to remember people and things.

A person after my own heart. One of my favorite things to do is look at photos in the homes of friends. They always apologize at showing me a photo...but my god! I love it. I have so many photos and how many I do varies with the day and my mood but I'd say I do at the very least one a day.. and usually a lot more.

Great use of lighting work, the shadow is so dark it looks like a second vase of flowers.

Well, that was all up to nature but I'm thankful indeed. I love it when the sun turns that color, it makes the best shadows ever.

polaroids are good for some things but floral still lifes?

OmahaNebraska In reply to JDYezz [2008-02-18 20:49:21 +0000 UTC]

Polaroids are good for everything

except macros but beyond that, I can't think of a subject I wouldn't like in a polaroid.

I love the positioning of the flowers, working with the shadows in the background to slightly offset the composition enough so where they can be centered but the image is still off centered in a way. The warm color tone is a little bit too much, but still a beautiful photo.

OmahaNebraska In reply to KSDale03 [2008-02-18 05:57:15 +0000 UTC]

It is in fact off centered which is for 2 reasons. neither on purpose.

1) I'm not sure if you've worked with polaroid cameras before but they (especially mine) are old and not very well put together often so the view finder is horribly inaccurate.

2) I'm legally blind. I can only see out of my right eye so I have no depth perception so I tend to overcompensate hopefully I get a hold of it someday!

as for the tone, I guess it's just a personal taste thing I didn't adjust it at all, this is straight scan. I love it when the sun turns that color, it makes everything seem so warm and fuzzy and happy, at least to me.

Any camera that doesn't have a TTL viewfinder tend to be a little more than off

OmahaNebraska In reply to KSDale03 [2008-02-18 06:12:39 +0000 UTC]

very true.

Most of my cameras are very....low tech. So I should be used to it by now D: but I'm an absent minded little thing, I am, I am.

KSDale03 In reply to OmahaNebraska [2008-02-18 06:14:11 +0000 UTC]

I like using TTL because I have a hard time visualizing what I want without it. I end up over-compensating for something to much, and it ends up not working out correctly at all.

Well, I probably wouldn't use one if I had one

I am a bit of an odd ball and when I shoot it's very hard for me to plan. It's usually spur of the moment and I see something, and the light is hitting it, and I grab the camera closest to me and shoot before I lose it.

That and I am a cheap bastard, and if I can't fix it, I probably shouldn't buy it. I drop things constantly, thus was born my love of toy cameras

Heh, I don't know why, but for a moment I didn't notice the glass bottle. I thought the flowers were floating. I love how the dull light creeps into the room..

me too! This picture was taken during my favorite part of the day, when the sun starts to set, and it turns this deep honey color, and the shadows stretch really long. I wish all day was like that. I would be in heaven!
