I guess it would depend on how you view death and the type of spirit you'd be waking up; such as if it retains it's personality and memories, if it's just simply energy, if it's just the remnant of a specific moment, etc.

This got a little "pet semitary" here O_O Like, if i could have my ferret back as a ghost, with all her personality and happiness, i would, i think, given that she could come and go from her new realm at whim... Then she won't miss out on all the cool after death stuff people say happens... But she could still hang out with me and her boy friend whenever she wanted.

OMGitsSomething In reply to PyroandScout [2016-05-10 16:37:37 +0000 UTC]

I think whether or not their personality and memory of you is retained, is the main thing it comes down to. Because presumably your pet loved you, too, and would be happy to be around you again. But if the personality is not there, then it's not really going to be your pet anymore, not the way you knew them.

More like a thing that favors you, but don't know why? Do you suppose (hypothetically of course) that they could remember things eventually? Or would it be like meeting them again and starting over?

OMGitsSomething In reply to PyroandScout [2016-05-10 17:48:51 +0000 UTC]

I guess it would depend on if it still has consciousness. If it can still actually think and have emotions but it's memory has just been wiped clean, or if it's just a fragmented imprint left behind.

This is getting deep, for D/A...

I always figured the soul was the consciousness and memory all in one...that a spirit or soul is what makes a body alive and functioning. If that energy is outside of a body..it has to go somewhere... i guess it would have presence of mind to make choices. it could choose to stay or go, or stay and go somewhere else... man.. now i want to go back to the hospital i lost little girl at, just in case her spirit is still there....

I used to do paranormal investigation. From a scientific stand point, you would start off assuming only the absolute minimum, and work up from there with signs that it could be something more. That was actually a problem we had in our group, too many people wanting to just jump to the conclusion that whatever we were looking for was a conscious entity reaching out to them, without anything more than a hear-say story as evidence of there even possibly being something there at all.

PyroandScout In reply to OMGitsSomething [2016-05-10 19:16:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah..that is the trouble with over zealous paranormal groups..
I heard a theory once that i can more or less agree to the possibility of happening. They said areas high in certain natural compounds like quarts and lime kinda record the happenings around them.. now i dont so much believe that as a thing, (plus putting it in writing makes it sound stupid as hell) but like, i could see an energy "playing back" what it did the most in its bodily existence. Like people who report the same thing happening at the same time in the same area... its that energy "playing back" what it did... its not a conscious entity, it has no personality, no awareness, it don't even know you are there, its just "playing back" ... like a reel to reel on a bed sheet...

OMGitsSomething In reply to PyroandScout [2016-05-11 04:18:45 +0000 UTC]

My whole thing was, yes, I'm kind of a skeptic, but not so much that I don't believe in the possibility. I wanted to find something, but I wanted to find something that was undeniably real... not just be playing pretend with vivid imaginations. But what you're talking about is the primary thing you're supposed to be trying to find evidence of, hence the use of evp and emf. When you're doing an evp, the primary thing is trying to see if that repeated fragment gets picked up; you can ask questions to see if that may trigger something, but it's not likely to have much impact, and you're certainly not going to get into a conversation with something. Things like poltergeists and other more conscious hauntings are supposed to be rare. We did go out on one that was a potential poltergeist, and I'll admit some weird things did happen, but unfortunately, still nothing big enough to come to a conclusion... plus it got botched by said over-zealous members. :/

PyroandScout In reply to OMGitsSomething [2016-05-11 14:11:34 +0000 UTC]

Yeah....thats why i dont like those stupid Ghost hunter shows on tv...people play so into things on those and ...lets say they actually found a legit scrap of evidence, or there was a conscious entity there, they way they speak to them and treat them is so disrespectful...if i was a ghost, i wouldnt want to interact with them ass holes...

I've seen things..nothing dramatic, i assure you, but things i cant explain.  And my mom saw the last one too. It started when i was really little, i would tell my mom i saw the "star man" at night. (i know it sounds stupid, just fasten your seat belt, its gonna be a long trip) I would see a man, but he would be clear, just an out line, but in silver. He would open my door at night and look in at me like he was making sure i was okay, he never scared me and i dont know who he was. Then after my moms dog passed...a couple years after actually, i was in our basement doing laundry and the lights went out. We used to have a lot of breaker issues that year, and i stand by that the lights were unrelated to what i saw. The lights went out on my way down the hall to the washer and i kept going because, why not, its just the laundry room. And we had one window in that room and a little bit of light shown into the hall. I saw My moms dog walk across the hall.. He had had a back surgery in life and had a hunch back and a particular way of walking..It was him.. I was deeply unsettled and went back upstairs until my dad fixed the breaker. About a month after that i spotted our cat in the basement, who had also passed. That one didnt shake me as bad. As a kid ..and still i suppose.. i have a lot of anxiety, i used to be afraid of sleeping without a wall beside me, so i knew i was safe from one side at least. In an attempt to "fix" myself and prove i was brave, i moved my bed to the center of my room, and subsequently couldnt sleep. I had a short bunk bed as a kid, it stood maybe 5 feet off the ground with a roll out bottom bunk. One night while trying to get comfortable i turned on my side and immediately felt unsafe, like i was being watched. I tried to tell myself i was stupid and there wasn't anyone in my room, but i was frozen, like i didnt want to move. I finally turned and was face to face with this very tired looking silver- see through man with a scruffy 2 day beard and bags under his eyes. He was missing a few teeth i think too, because he was smiling at me. Not a scary smile, like a friendly one, but he was all of 4 inches from my face. I was horrified. I basically put my face in my pillow and covered my head with a blanket (cuz that'll save ya) When i finally peeked out again he was gone. Then i got a real bed a few years later, one with the sheer curtains that hung on the sides. Now, i'm a know sleep walker, horrible, like, gotten into cars bad. I also scream and talk in my sleep. No big. My sister was next room over. One night i woke up on my back in bed and there was a lady leaned over me. Like, it looked like my sheer curtain had stretched into the shape of a woman, who was tucking my blankets around me. I screamed and must have fainted (i dont really know, i'm not the fainting type) cuz when i woke up again i was still on my back, but violently shifted away from the area i had seen the lady. I told myself it was a dream, and it may well have been, and told myself my sister would have checked on me if i had actually screamed. But the next day i asked my sister if i woke her at all that night...she said i had screamed, but i was quiet after that, so she figured i was ok.. (thanks, sis )  The last one (I promise) Was the one that scared me the most.. because thus far all my experiences had been peaceful. And i dont know if i can really count this or not. I woke up one night and i couldnt move, at all, and i could breathe in, but i couldn't breathe out (weird, i know) and i was getting a bit panicky because i didnt know what was going on and i was suffocating. At that time i had my bed still in the center of the room, and i had a book case and a bird cage at the head. There was no room for a person to stand there, but i saw shadow black arms reach up over my head and grab my head board and a person lean over and watch me. I told myself that i needed to focus on moving something small and everything would be ok. So i focused on moving my left pinkie finger, like i couldnt even feel my body, but it eventually curled a little and i let out this huge breath and was able to kinda talk again and i kept shouting "Go away!" And the shadow thing kinda dissolved and left and i could move again. I stayed up the rest of the night with my light on, sitting in the center of my bed. I told my mom about it and she said i was lying. But in an effort to figure out what had happened, i went online and found out about sleep paralysis...which can cause visions of shadow people.. And i felt a lot better, having a solid real thing i could pin it on... but then like a month later my mom asked me to describe what had happened again.. now, she had been very adamant that i was just a stupid lair before. So i told her again what had happened and she admitted it had happened to her the night before, same way, except  her bed head was against a wall, so her Shadow guy was along side her and she described him as more detailed and skeletal than mine.    Feel free to discredit these as much as you want.. i know i would. We live in an area full of quartz and lime rock.. that kinda thing fucks with peoples minds and causes hallucinations.

It's funny, when you got to the last one, I was thinking sleep paralysis, before you even mentioned it. I've actually had it before. I only knew about it at all because, a long time ago, I had watched some show about people who claimed to be alien abductees and stuff, and that's something that was talked about. Then it happened to me years later. I woke up completely unable to move or even yell for help, I had tunnel vision that was flickering like a TV stuck between channels, which I guess made me think of that thing I had watched, once I remembered "sleep paralysis" it just dawned on me that that's what was going on and I basically was able to think my way out of it. Still weird. It's like the opposite of sleep walking, which I used to do, maybe still do, I'm not sure.

The pet things, I don't have as much doubt as you might expect. I've known people who seriously do believe in ghosts, but will laugh at the idea of animal ghosts, I can't stand that kind of anthropocentric bias. I think the only reason I do kind of believe in the possibility is because I believed my old room to be haunted by my old cat. That cat was an extremely mean cat, the only people who could even be around her was our immediate family, but she was insanely protective of me in particular. After she died, there would be random things moving in my room or music boxes would start playing without being touched, things like this went on for years, only in my room. It actually got weirder in the months before we moved, I heard purring when there was no cat anywhere; and the night when my locked door opened on its own followed by the usual stuff. It kind of made me feel bad for moving because none of that stuff ever happened again in the new house, the same music boxes never made sound on their own again, it had to have been just that room. I feel like I left my guard kitty behind
Also, that house was, in fact, made of limestone.

Also, side note about the TV ghost hunters. I actually met TAPS, the group that the original Ghost Hunters series followed. It was at the Crescent Hotel in Arkansas. They left it out of the episode, but the hotel actually caught fire one of those nights (I'm assuming the hotel didn't want that aired). But, there we all were outside at 3:00AM, and we were hanging around with TAPS and they just start bitching about how hotel might not be serving breakfast, because, you know there was a fire... and they were still trying to put it out... and they weren't sure how much damage there would be... but, yes, pancakes are very important in times like that.

Yeah, that sleep paralysis thing, i had never heard of it before then, and i was feeling a lot better once i had found it online, it was just unnerving to have my mom bring it up again that she had had a very similar experience O_O

Well, i have heard of energy attaching to objects too...but the fact it hasnt happened since and you mentioned the lime stone...i still think that holds some merit, i really do, even if i can't explain why...

TAPS guys, naw, those guys are legit...its all the others i have issue with... They are disrespectful, calling out mean things and names and demanding things of the spirits... naw, not cool in my opinion.

OMGitsSomething In reply to PyroandScout [2016-05-11 18:26:52 +0000 UTC]

I was so glad after that, that I had watched that thing, because I probably would have just had to wait it out in fear if  hadn't been able to realize what was going on. The thing with your mom having had it happen, particularly that close in timing, is pretty strange. I'll admit, I haven't looked into it much, but I wonder is it could be genetic? I know sleep walking sometimes is.

Well, there is a lot of limestone other types of rock and quartz around here too. Not sure what kind of stone the new house was made of. I really wonder if it continued after we moved or even if there was any changes in activity.

Oh, I know TAPS conducts their investigations well. I just thought the whole breakfast thing was funny... just like guys, seriously? You're worried about breakfast?. Also, though, that it is a bit disappointing, with the whole fire being cut out, that the owners of the location they're investigating may have more say as to what goes into the episode; like if a place really depends on their supposed hauntings to draw business, they may be able to push for a confirmed finding to be included. There's a hotel around here that doesn't allow investigations because they don't want to chance being debunked, or the bar that's supposed to be haunted by hooker ghosts, that you have to pay them to investigate. I wouldn't be surprised if they allowed a TV show to investigate, but paid the producers of the show to include/exclude things based on how it may affect their credibility.

Cool thing is, i'm not related to my mom, i was kinda an "Inconvenient adoption" I only say that because they had wanted a second kid, but didnt realize they didnt have time for a second, as my grandma had some pretty severe health issues right after they got me and they kinda had to pawn me off on people so they could care for her (totally understandable, really)

I would honestly be willing to bet it probably does.. but maybe like that "recorded" kind where its playing itself back over and over...?

Yeah, i met some people from Scifi once. They were cool. They were up here looking for the Beast of Bray Road. (our local "werewolf") and my husband had found the article saying they were looking for witnesses...I straight up told him what i had seen wasn't near Bray road, nor did i think it was a werewolf, but they interviewed me anyways (and i got $100.00, woot)  I asked them if they had ever seen anything they actually thought was legit and they admitted "Not usually, but some times you see odd things" ... if you are curious, i was running late to get home from class one night and this weird, tall, dog animal thing crossed the road in front of me. I studied zoology for awhile in my later teens, before i realized i wouldnt be going to collage.  And i could not identify what it was... it was very tall and thin, but not ill looking. It was tall enough to step over the gate beside it without hopping.  best guess? Some kinda weird ass domestic dog sub breed.

OMGitsSomething In reply to PyroandScout [2016-05-12 05:10:51 +0000 UTC]

Ah, well, that certainly rules out genetics. As far as I know sleep paralysis is considered a phenomena, so it'd probably be hard to figure out any other reason you'd both get it around the same time. Plus seeing similar things.

Yeah, it's probably not as fun to whoever lives there now. At least I always liked to think it was my cat. Their stuff probably just gets moved and they can't figure out why. It's pretty widely accepted that anything with any level of consciousness, is usually associated with with some other larger event, but man, if that cat became a poltergeist, I feel bad for whoever lives there now... a friend's grandmother once genuinely swore that cat was a demon XD

Must have been pretty freaky seeing something like that go by...
the result of horrible backyard breeding of greatdanes? XP

PyroandScout In reply to OMGitsSomething [2016-05-12 15:12:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, i was all ready to settle my decision on it being a fluke and a hallucination brought on by the paralysis, until my mom reported the same thing... (I really had to control myself not to be all "I TOLD YOU SO!" to her)... She was freaked out. Neither of us has had it happen since.

I dont think animals can actually be evil... i think they are too pure for it..if that makes sense? But with enough emotion, i suppose it could become a poltergeist.  Maybe it dipped when the new people came in...or i guess "crossed over"?

Yeah, it ran across the road so fast and so close to my car that i thought my head lights had malfunctioned and blipped off for a sec. So i stopped and turned the car (empty country roads, late at night, no traffic) so the lights shown in the ditch and this thing was just standing there.. It had a real long, narrow face and big, standing ears, it had long, thin legs, and a tail exactly like a cougar.. i bet it just hung out, looking at my lights for a good 30 seconds before it took off..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OMGitsSomething In reply to PyroandScout [2016-05-12 16:49:30 +0000 UTC]

That is strange..

Nah, I don't think animals are evil. I'm pretty sure people wouldn't have been quite as shocked if she had been a dog, people just don't expect a cat to be so aggressive; you say "mean cat", they expect to get hissed at, not literally chased out of the house by a rampaging beast. She was traumatized as a kitten. She was born in a laundromat and a male cat got in and killed all the other kittens. She didn't trust any other people or animals and was just extremely territorial and protective. If she so much as saw another cat outside, she would try to break the glass trying to go after it.

If that was down here, people would be screaming "chupacabra"  XD

PyroandScout In reply to OMGitsSomething [2016-05-12 17:02:14 +0000 UTC]

Meh, yeah, weirdness XD

Aww, poor kitty!! D: I had a dog who basically was my nanny growing up... i mentioned there was a good reason for my folks to more or less dip on me all the time, but they always said stay with Morgan. And she hated everyone else, even if my dad was wearing a hat, she'd go after him. I dont think she was abused or anything, just German personality (doxie dog)  Its good to have animals on your side as a protector, they care so deeply. <3

XD haaha! I was never really scared or anything, maybe a tad unsettled, but more or less confused. Like, i got home and started pouring over my text books, looking online and trying to figure out what the hell i just saw.. Still my best bet is some kinda weird ass dog hybrid..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OMGitsSomething In reply to PyroandScout [2016-05-12 17:45:34 +0000 UTC]

Certain dogs are actually bred to be protective of children, so, it was probably more just in her instincts to be protective, rather than from abuse. Abused dogs are usually pretty unpredictable.
I loved having a badass guard cat as kid. She was technically my mom's cat, but had pretty much adopted me as her own and tried to raise me as a cat. Not so much my brother though, he was afraid of her, and she was just neutral towards my dad. I actually ended up closer to her than I did the rest of my family.

Weird things happen when certain dog breeds get mixed, so, that probably was it. Or some mutated thing. Whenever people here think they found la chupacabra, but it almost always ends up just being a horribly deformed coyote.

PyroandScout In reply to OMGitsSomething [2016-05-12 17:56:07 +0000 UTC]

Aww, that does sound like the same kind of personality that Morgan had. Even if it was a kitty, they can be just as loyal. I was definitely the closest one to Morgan.  Only problem with having a dog for a substitute mom was my speech and social skills suffered, but thats starting to normalize now and a lot of people i know cant even tell i had issues

Why you all have so many deformed coyotes?! O_O

OMGitsSomething In reply to PyroandScout [2016-05-12 18:17:54 +0000 UTC]

Same here. The first time I got into a fight with another kid, I straight up fought him like a cat; took him down to the ground and fought "tooth and claw"... the teachers where appalled and I got in a lot of trouble for it. Kind of funny now though. I still have some odd mannerisms, but people already think I'm weird as it is, and usually don't think too much of it.

Usually its from diseases or weird breeding combinations with other types of dog that just turn out horrifying. There have been some cases that don't have much explanation other than just nature gone wrong, but DNA still comes back as coyote.
