Thanks, drawing at angles is still a new thing for me. I have spatial relationship issues as it is, so it's very hard. >_< Glad you think I did okay!

Ah. Well, it's really simple to do. Just fill the whole background with a gradient, then go to hue/saturation and mess with it until it's a good color for what you're doing. Then take the free select tool and zig-zag it around. Close off the free select and fill it with a darker gradient. Done!

Epic Epicness! The swirling fog, the clawing lighting, and the slight foreshortening makes this just . . . epic! The shading, highlights, and texture on the cloak and robe is also fantastic!

Thanks, I'm trying to add more texture to my art to get away from the plastic-like look I usually end up with. Wish I could make brush-like strokes like in PS.

That lightning is amazing. Who needs a stock image what you can do it by hand and make in look like that. I also love the swirling cape and mist at his feet, it's very empressive. As for the perspective, it makes sense to me. It's like a cone tiped sideways coming to smaller tip and the farthest point.

IT's so hard for me to visualize that cone though. Even when I draw it, I'm unconsciously trying to straighten the drawing out. I'm awful! XD

Ok, after that initial response... that's really awesome. You did an amazing job on the battle damage, the burns, the rents, and just the worn cloth... the textures, the lightning...
I have watched your skill level simply *explode* over the last few years!

You should be damn happy about the lightning, it's delicious. And since the background sky and the clothes and swirling mists /darkness underneath are softly graded, the lightning stands out because it and the mountains are the only things contrasting that sharply.

....fuck you and your lightning.
Seriously it looks awesome.
I don't know anything about perspective that you don't, so yeah. But I love the glows here, and the fog suggesting that the surge of power is stirring up dust. ^^

Holy shit, the lightning was done by HAND? THAT is impressive, no two ways about it. I agree the perspective isn't perfect, but it's far from terrible too; in terms of fixing it, I find it helpful to pick two points on the picture, one high and one low, and make sure everything you draw is moving outward from the lower point and inward to the higher point; drawing a pair of straight lines moving from the bottom the picture to the vanishing point and then drawing your character within those lines so that you can see how well the individual pieces fit the perspective might also help. That's just me, though. As for the rest of the pic, you do a great job conveying the character's power and ominous atmosphere, and I really dig the background; it's a small touch, but it adds just the right note of grandeur to the whole thing.

Omnicenos In reply to Gojira007 [2010-12-11 21:03:36 +0000 UTC]
Wouldn't you need two points at the bottom, to kind of make a cone? Is it okay if things like elbows go outside the lines formed by said cone, or is it just important it follows a midline?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Gojira007 In reply to Omnicenos [2010-12-11 22:07:16 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the "cone" idea is what I was getting at. Following the midline is more important than staying in the cone, too, but you do want to avoid straying TOO far outside. Generally, the technique is more helpful for very dramatic angles, but it can at least provide a helpful framework for more subtle angles too.
