Description
A dragon designed for a Todd McFarlane contest. Tried to make it more fantastic than my usual style of more evolutionary based dragons. Some tribal paint for a mystic dragon, and accesories show ahigher level of intelligence than my regular beasts.Related content

Amazing job on the concept as well as the actual coloring. I think that actually fits in with the type of McFarlene stuff.

I really do admire the physical design on this dragon. It always baffled me, the muscle structure of something six-limbed that's not some kinda bug. After looking at a few bird anatomy pages (never thought to reference bat anatomy, though. Weird me. o.o ), I noticed that a bulky creature would need a lot of muscle to get off the ground and a majority of that would have to be on the front. So I wondered "Where the hell do I put its damn arms!?". My solution was to draw them lower, beneath the wing muscles, like how you done. Except yours looks a lot more believable than mine. XD
The colors and the markings are also a marvelous touch. Gives it a lot of personality. ^^

Absolutely one of the coolest dragons I've seen on DeviantART. Considering the size and complexity of the back of the head, I think it might look nice if the front of it was a little longer, but that's something personal. The smaller hands add a touch of refinement somehow, because it's able to do more fine things with it then most of the other dragons. Love the small accesories as well.
In overal: Awesome. I wish I could draw my own dragon-like creation like this...

This is probably the most elegant and beautiful dragon I ever saw. I think it's an insult that only 81 people faved it, but well, it's DA after all...
Shapes and colors are splendid: they inspired me into drawing some dragons after AGES that I don't do it...

thanks for the comment!. I am trying to depict dragons in a more evolutionary base conceptualization, giving them a little bit of realism in anatomy. This one is an exception as it has the 6 legs based anatomy instead of my usual 4 legs based. I really would love to see one of your dragons, with your line and style would be awesome. good luck with the new job thing, by the way!

Very interesting, I always thought if you had wings you should have another pair of arms to grab stuff, you gave him effectively four with the hands there

My dragons don't have usually 4 anterior legs (2 wings, 2 legs) since I design dragons based on an evolutinary three based on four legged animals. This is a more fantastic creature, so it's small arms are just for fine manipulation, while the wing arms do the heavy duty

I don't know, a lot of fantasy dragons have 6 appendages, which makes sense to me, but offhand all reptiles, birds, amhibians and mammals do only have 4 limbs. Some aquatic creatures have more though.

That's the thing, more than 4 appendages for land based creatures is not existant. That's why my regular dragins have a brid, or bat anathomy for the wing structure.
As for the aquatic creatures... you mean fantasy related?

No existing ones can have more then 4 limbs or tentacles if you look at squid, sea anenemoes, fish also have a few fins in different spots but I don;t know how that counts.
