They were always with me. Every second. They didn't take weekends or holidays off. They didn't even go home for the night. When I tried to talk with people, they'd whisper things like, "You haven't even said anything and they're already bored," or "Maybe if you're quiet they won't care as much." When I was alone they'd whisper about what people thought of me, people I'll never meet again. I hated them, but I knew they'd never leave. Until I met him.
He wasn't the kind of person to talk much. He seemed perfectly happy remaining simple friends. He loved to listen to me too, and they always seemed to be a little more quiet around him. It wasn't until a year after I met him that I realized. He could see them too. It was on a walk, with him, and they were being louder than usual, more persistent, more convincing. I was at the verge of breaking down when he reached over and calmly clamped one of their filthy jaws shut. All the rest stopped as well, and so did I. Just as calmly as he had closed it, he grabbed it by the waist and threw it on the ground. After a moment of shock, it got up and ran away. He stood up and made eye contact with every single one of them, and every single one of them scampered away. I cried, because it felt so nice to hear the silence. I've never seen them again.

Thought this was an interesting enough concept to write out. Obviously not perfect, but near enough that I'm happy with it. Hope you enjoy.
