10/10 the swords and clothing bleeding is a nice touch, that doubled with the lack of eye on Barda, Β Jasmine's dagger position and lief's... overallΒ demeanor are all great choices.
(p.s. i know this is old but just saying)

You're welcome. That asshole was doing the same thing to me in the past. I was able to remove it by reporting it to eBay. Let me know if you need help doing that.

Extra reports will definitely help!
Also, are you saying this person has done this before? In this case, I'll write up a seperate PSA against this guy. Thanks so much!

Well, only the original artist can report it, and that is you. I think you will have to sign in to eBay for that.
Yep. He was selling my art on eBay a few years ago. Well, he picked the wrong artist to steal from. I still check his page out every once in a while and try to find the original artists to tell them. I want him banned.

I fully understand! I mean, was this a kid-friendly concept to begin with? Why would you try to make it appeal to the younger ages if it was never really meant for them?
Thank you very much! And, err, what do you mean by accurate?

OnyxSabre In reply to Totowuv [2011-07-16 17:22:02 +0000 UTC]
Ah, I see! Glad to know I made an accurate assumption seeing as, well, swords are involved.
On another note, I can probably guess that they made it appeal to kids in order the expand the popularity? It's like Yu-Gi-Oh, the manga is dark and bloody at most points, but the show mainly involves albeit far-fetched life-threatening instances...all because of a card game...I suppose if you make a concept like this so popular, I think that's what they were doing with Deltora Quest? Since the kids saw they show, they might be very interested in the true story in the books thus expanding the fanbase?
Well, it seemed like good advertisement if I put it that way, but then I wouldn't know how they failed this feat?

Indeed, I suppose that was it's downfall? It's much like the Harry Potter books, but instead of leaving out the gory parts, they create major plot holes and replace them with awkward scenes thus begging you to read the books if this is for real or what the real story is. (I apologize for the parallelism rant.)
Seriously, when Leif had his last battle with Dain, I was expecting blood. Dain had a creepy upgrade, and how was he defeated? By putting...the belt..around his waist. Did that really happen in the books?

I've never acutally seen the Harry Potter movies, but Ive read the books. Ive heard that in the movies (sorry if this isnt true!) they leave out the invisibility cloak, so that would definitely cause some awkward scenes!
But yeah, in the books, Lief does defeat Dain with the belt....
I guess it was because that every time Dain was stabbed, the wounds turned into armor.
So to keep using the sword wouldve been useless, and whats worse, ols cant bleed.
But still.....a bit of blood, from Lief or something, WOULD have been nice.
Once again, DAYGERS you kids.

OnyxSabre In reply to Totowuv [2011-07-19 19:12:43 +0000 UTC]
Well, the movies aren't that far-fetched from the books, but they do hold major plot holes. But, yes, the invisibility cloak is indeed in all the movies.
Really? I see, but, agian, yes, with that powerful body of his, how can he not draw blood from Leif? At all? I can understand that Dain was truely having fun taunting him but that doesn't mean he can't attack at the proper moments.
Then again, I think the worst part about the whole anime is, that I really didn't like it as much. The lines the characters said were cheesy. the scenarios were blatantly easy because they happened before yet the characters can't take a hint? It's like watching a failing comedy routine, and the action doesn't help since it's too subtle and again, no blood.
I suppose that it's because of the english dub? Most animes localized have the same problem, but they have no excuse on Deltora Quest. This wasn't meant for kids, yet you tried so hard to appeal to everyone that you didn't gain anyone. And what's worse maybe a few people might treat the book the same when they've clearly never read it. What on earth.

They have the invisibility cloak? thats a relief...
Should I watch the movies? Just to see those majot plot holes? Or would it ruin the story...
And yes, its unbelievable that Dain, with his claws and things, on a slippery staricase, cant manage to draw a single drop of Liefs blood! Even though Dain did attack Lief a couple of times, but he seemed to hold back a little... People, its not that hard to add a little bit of blood at the right moments!
Well, I do have a liking to the anime, but I do agree with you that they definetly could of improved lots of things. A lot of magical things seem to happen right at the last moment, and worst of all theres no blood to make it all believable. Plus, the books were shorter but concentrated on the more important detials, whether as the show can get a little side tracked thus making less room for the important detials. This happened mainly in this one episode, called the Valley of the Lost. Im not sure if uve seen it, but heres the link: [link]
It REALLY made me mad. In this one they had to solve numerous puzzles to find out the Guardians real name, which turned out to be king Endon. The books told it really well, as it told you how they were worked out and there were a few twists as well.
But in the anime.....
Lief Barda and Jasmine dont actually SOLVE the puzzles. They just look at them for a few seconds and ta daa! They magically have the answer. Even before they finished getting all the letters, it was obvious it was Endon. I think its just because I read the books, but this particular episode frustrated me SO bad.
And with your last point, exactly. The book wasnt made for kids in the first place.
And that IS an awful way to treat a book! the Deltora Quest books, which had three series, are a LOT different from the anime...

Yes, very much so, Well, since you already know the true story, I do recommend watching the movies as well. It's better instead of watching the movies first and being eternally misleading thus giving a kind of scorn towards the whole series. Sure, you have changes falling to the liking of the director, plot holes, and needed character development, but seeing the action really pays it all off. I can understand that they needed changes since making a movie is painstakingly difficult, and this is a really well-known franchise! They can't screw around or else the fans will hunt them down in a dark alley. All I can say is sure, why not? The movies are very exciting and I frankly cannot see HP without them. The latest, and the last, movie released recently is truly epic, and I would recommend seeing it, too, since I don't want anyone missing out on a great treat.
So movies are hard. Animes...you have no excuse. They don't have deadlines like a movie production does, they're basically stress-free in a way, and an anime is much, much more cheaper to produce as well!
I can totally agree with you. The one episode that also struck me bad was when they were crossing a bridge. Jasmine went, but when it came to Barda, at first he couldn't figure out the puzzle. But then miraculously, just but seeing a reflection, he knows how to solve it? What? If that's so, Barda would've provided better causes throughout the whole story if he's the intelligent! By god, if he was this sleuthing in the first place, they could have avoided many event altogether. It makes no sense. I also hate that it can portray him getting lucky, but that's all they ever do! Ride on luck's back.
They don't think, and I'm ashamed to give Leif the title of Idiot Hero once it comes to the anime. I'm not saying I don't like him or he really is an idiot, but he doesn't look fit for this kind of job. At all, so whyyyyyyy?

Nice work, mate!
In answer to your question, the books have a lot of blood and gore in them. Also a lot more people get killed and die. They didn't put any of that in the anime of course, because it's meant for kids, but it's there in the books. They're a lot better than the show, but then most things are better than their adaptions.
Again, this picture is really awesome!

You're welcome!
Yeah, if you enjoy reading anything fantasy I'd really recommend Deltora Quest to you. There's also another two DQ series that they didn't make an anime of. In my opinion I liked them better than the first.
And you're really welcome again!
