Description Quite possibly the oldest character I have, here anthropomorphized for the first time.

When I was little, I played with plushies instead of dolls. This character here is based on the personality of the plushie I played with the most, and the story I made up for him back then.
I think the stories I came up with when I was little and acted out with my toys was a lot darker than most little girls would come up with. I had so many stories, and each of my plushies were given personalities and backstories, so not all my characters are/were cartoon characters.

This guy was my favorite one, and his story and its developement was my favorite thing to play. I played alone, most of the time. I had two friends who I enjoyed playing together with, but the stories we came up I would secretly keep separate from my toy-characters' original stories. Playing alone in my room allowed me to truly create, getting lost in these characters worlds and observing how it progressed.
The guy I've drawn here was a Marsupilami plushie, so a temporary name for him can be.... "Marshall". Just 'cause I haven't come up with a good name for the anthro-version of him yet.
Ok, so "Marshall" is a young man with the biggest heart I could imagine back then. Not literally though; he was a very kind and sweet guy, compassionate and caring, yet not a very social person.. I remember him as a very brave person, selfless and good hearted too, someone who would do everything for the ones he loved. Thing was, he didn't have anyone he loved. In fact, he didn't have anyone in his life, period. He kept mostly to himself, and that didn't exactly improve when he ended up homeless.
So, Marshall is a twenty-something-year-old hobo, entirely alone and too shy to seek out to anyone for help or even talk to them. The story begins though when Marshall one day finds a lost kid hiding near the dumpsters. The kid's clothes are stained in soot and ashes, a faint scent of smoke present on him. Marshall wants to help the little boy, but at first end up scaring him further by his mere presence: Marshall is very tall, lanky and scruffy-looking, doesn't speak and hides his face under his hood. Realizing this, he takes a calm step away from the kid, pulls his hood back to reveal his face.
At first they just stare at each other; the tries to look tough and threatening, but that mask fails to conceal how scared he feels. He is hesitant, at the same time as he wants to trust this tall fellow in front of him. Marshall doesn't look like he intends to hurt the kid. He looks more like he genuinely wishes to help him.
Marshall and the kid - Webster - start talking, and Marshall learns that the kid was recently orphaned when his parents were killed in a fire. Webster escaped from the fire and ran away in panic. Marshall offers him to borrow his bed for the night, he'll stay guard so nothing happens to Webster, and then the next morning he'll follow him to the police station so they can help him find someone to take care of him.
When the morning comes, Webster doesn't want to go to the police station after all. His explanation as to why he doesn't want any help finding a new home makes very little sense and Webster's excuses change time and time again. He lies a lot, but Marshall starts sensing a pattern and the real reason why Webster doesn't want help finding a new home.
Marshall is reluctant at first to let Webster stay with him, knowing he won't be able to provide a good life for the young kid. But Webster persists, and as the days pass they bond more and more, Webster adapts fast to Marshall's living conditions and Marshall becomes a father figure to Webster.

There are plenty of obstacles and conflics happening in this story too though, and as if raising a kid while living on the street wasn't challenging enough, things get even more difficult once the police and the child protective services decide to split the two and re-home Webster - something Marshall feels Webster deserves as he wants him to have the best life possible, but Webster disagrees and wants Marshall to adopt him, officially.Β

.... I'm sorry for this wall of text, guys I just had to get this story out of my head
I'd love to work more on it some day, though. Don't worry, the SPIKE-story is still my main focus, but it's nice to have various side projects for the sake of variation and keeping a steady flow of creativity and inspiration..

Well...! I've been up all night now, so I should probably go get some sleep XD
I don't draw as much nowadays, so that's my only reason for not having been much on deviantart, to be honest.. But I'll be sure to post more drawings and whatnot soon as I have some
Thanks for being so patient with me though you guys are the best

*group hug*

Marshall could be a good last name for the OC, but still stuck on a possible first name. Try a First name search on google.

Awesome work, and reminds me on how I see Liu Zhang's boyfriend from my story of KUNG FU PANDA: THE PATH OF THE RISING SUN.

Keep up the great work!

Don't feel alone in your dark childhood playtime stories, mine were pretty intense as well. Blackie the cat had to raise his daughter on his own after his wife was taken by the mafia... anyway, I beg you to tell me what program you used. Yours is my favorite art style, relaxed but expressive, and it looks effortless.

Oh my Gawd, what a cute and sad story The pic caught my eye as I just scrolled down, and it fits the described character "Marshall" perfectly! I feel like I just wanna hug that cutie :'D

I have made similar childhood experiences, but I fear they're not that present and not that dark -I decided to flee into happy endings I guess, although I had great potential for gloomy stories and still have -my characters today are alot darker than then C: much more villain than hero... I really wish I had my memory, unfortunately I forgot most of the (positive) stuff that happened back then but nevertheless have such bonds with my characters too :'D

just wanted to tell... well the last paragraph wasn't necessary, I fear, so probably not really interesting or worth the interest ^-^ I merely wanted to say how fast this Marsupilami plushie got my attention and sympathy...~

Oh my gosh you did what I did when I was little! But it was my brother and I that made up the game! We made a back stories for them also and it was a very serious game too! I wish I could draw my guy but I only draw animals and Benjamin is a guy all though he started as a bear he became a human as we got older . But that's awesome how you were able to
draw your character. Weird I know. Don't you hate getting older ? I think life is more exciting as a child instead of an adult but we must move on. This pic made my day thank you.

I can't pinpoint it exactly, but there's something very captivating about this piece. It feels so "alive" yet maintains its cartoon flavor and high appeal...which is right up my alley.Β

Thank you Elise, even for a short story, it's already wonderful. I love the heart you give your characters, I can't wait till you discover the full power of how amazing your mind is. They way you transfer the beautiful mind to your hands is even more amazing. I can't go anywhere on the internet without finding your amazing work and a mountain of people happily referencing your name. Here's something very interesting. Your work is so respected; no one, anywhere, makes pornography out of it. No one is willing to give you that dishonor, that's just a small part of the impact you've made on countless communities. Elise, you can write, you can draw, but more importantly, you help the world become a better place. I want to tell you that you've affected, millions, literally and in a positive way. Not many people can say that. I hope your life is always blessed for you give such a blessing to so many others. Those whom are closest to you, may they be greatly blessed as well for supporting such a wonderful person. Β

Don't feel weird! A lot of the stories I came up with as a kid playing with my toys and my best friend were just as "dark". Our favorite role playing game's story was this: we were orphans who lived in a tiny house during a post-war period and were very poor. Our older sister who used to care for us like a parent had died so we were left to fend for ourselves. Our main activities were finding food, trading in the market, cooking and trying to live despite of all the pain surrounding us.
We're talking about 6-7 year old kids here xD
