It is a wonderful scene full of appealing, soft autumn colors, brown and golds and shadows and snow. The small tree in the foreground is a very nice focal point and the light coming through the clouds is lovely, as well as the sparkle on the lake, but what would improve this photo very substantially would be if the sky were not in soft focus--if the rays of the sun were more defined. I can't tell whether it was intentionally softened, but speaking for myself, it would be dazzlingly beautiful if there were not such a difference in focus across the depth of the picture.

I believe you that the clouds were moving very quickly. Β I just did not know it until you told me! ;-D Β But this focus stacking sounds like a good idea. Β I try very hard not to let my eyes get spoiled by looking at too many heavily post-processed photos that seem unbelievable. Β I think they do nature a disservice, because there IS so much beauty, soft-spoken and shouted both, that it does not have to be so peacock-ified by photographers seeking to sell prints and garner more attention. Thank you for the critique! I didn't really notice it before but the clouds do look a bit blurry. At least in the upper right corner. It could be the wind, I remember the clouds moving at unreal speed. It is actually the foreground thats a little bit out of focus. This is before I started focus stacking. But It looks fine in print, so thats what matters.
I might try sharpening the image a little bit more, to see if that helps. The rays will stay like they are though. They look like I remember them. But thank you for the input, I welcome it

Very nicely captured. Β Excellent composition and capture of starburst on the lake draws the eye to the valley in which the mountains protect. Β First impact was that it reminded me of Ansel Adams Snake River. Β Excellent image.
