I've decided to try harder with the realistic Earth, and I believe it came out well!
It has a lovely cluster of stars as a background. Designed in Blender 2.62. ENJOOOOOOOY!!!!!!

The idea is interesting. But terminator is not such a sharp transition and the milky way passes stripe, and not on the curve.
