Do they ever give you any sort of explanation or do you kinda operate with a 'don't ask questions' policy?

Oo, I can totally see you as an art dealer in a futuristic setting where art is illegal (because creativity isn't allowed. It leads to rebellious ideals), but you still make it anyway.
And then your old bros from the good days are all like, "Is this all you've become? You used to fight for the old ways."
And then you're all like, "Look where that got us!" because the rebellion was squashed like a rotten grape and the artists who weren't killed had some of their fingers removed or artistic ability destroyed.
So now you're just an old veteran who just tries to scrape by, but youngsters born with the ability to create always look at your old works and are inspired to bring back the times where creation of all kinds were still allowed.
Will you be stuck in your grief or will someone or something ignite the flame within you again?
Oh, who can say? All I know is that I've obviously gone on a tangent that has absolutely NOTHING to do with this deviation.

I'm open to all kinds of backstories and I think this one had a small explanation with it. They can be pretty fun to read at times
