I'm trying to move my way back to SA, so to boost my motivation I have drawn my infamous little birdie.Whom you won't be seeing in the comic in a long time.

Yeah haha, the species name is ittri and the handsome fella in question is named Kyrisel
I'm working on upgrading his design a bit in the future but he will still look like the fabulous birdie he is.

I love this too much. I'm pretty new here, but i'm in love with this demon/human creature art. I've been looking trough your gallery for 30 minutes now, and I am SO impressed. I've always wanted to become an artist, but it slowly faded due to the lack of time I have, and because whenever I try to draw whatever I call a "human" it just looks bad. I want to give up, but seeing your art makes me want to continue and improve. I would have to kindly ask for some tips, because everytime I try it just looks bad and I feel like giving up because i'm not getting anywhere, but I feel like I can do it, because i've seen the level you've reached <3

Hmm tips then? Well I can give a few which have helped me to get this far. (Or which I wished I knew when I did want to get better.)
I guess one could say practice makes you better but not just any mindless drawing. You have to actively think what you draw and when you get your work done you have to learn how to spot your mistakes and the next time draw them better. Don't be afraid to use references. I have seen so many artist think it's wrong to draw something from a picture but in reality, how else would you get things right if you can't watch how they work?
So do lots of studies and try to apply pieces of references into your own drawings
Also internet is full of tutorials and speedpainting videos so I recommend you to watch that kind of stuff as much as you can. But on one condition. When you learn something new try to actually apply that to your own works right away.
But don't get overwhelmed. Make small steps. Like for example, focus on human anatomy first and when you feel like you have that under control, then learn how to draw faces. Maybe after that practice angles and coloring. Don't try to do everything perfect at once.
Also I recommend you to keep an open mind. Don't try to stick with some certain style or way of doing things. Who knows, maybe if you are brave enough to make your art some different way, it might end up being even more amazing.

That's really interesting, so is there a reason this particular character would have chosen to represent his face with two red mouths? It's very imposing.

The appearances for these creatures come usually straight from their personality. So this fella here wants to look a bit scary but still elegant since his personality is well...
He acts all high and mighty and despises almost everyone else. Not a very fun fella to be around, heh.

That makes him make a lot of sense, that's definitely the feel I get from his appearance. Two mouths is pretty intimidating, and it does look a little like a knight's helmet as well.

I love his super perty wings. I love the red eyes(?), nice little contrast there.

I should actually look refs when making his wings but I'm too lazy. They would look even better that way.

hmmm... maybe? But the arm structure is also different (different proportions on the bones in a bird wing vs. a human arm) so a ref will only get you so far. Doing them this way gives them more of a fantasy/unworldly look that really fits with an ittri!
